Unusual and useful things for your home that will decorate your life! DIY crafts from improvised means at home What you can create with your own hands.

Going through the little things that have accumulated at home, you often ask yourself: what can you do with your own hands at home with all this so that the products are of high quality, beautiful and functional?

From my own experience, sometimes all that separates us from great homemade products is our own insecurity and lack.

On the Internet, you can find many workshops on making things from a variety of improvised means: plastic dishes, purchased blanks, pallets, old tires, etc.

But you must agree: rarely does anyone have old tires from Kamaz lying around at home, from which you can make a pouf, but there will be difficulties with pallets if you do not have your own cafe or store.

We propose to go the other way and solve two problems at once in one fell swoop: do without expensive purchases and concentrate on eco-handmade from natural materials that can be easily found at home.

Postcards, decorations and crafts

The simplest of those things that you can do with your own hands at home are small products made of paper, fabric and simple author's decor details.

Making these little things works well as it develops fine motor skills hands and stimulates the unrestrained creativity of kids.

But it cannot be said that the activity is purely childish: many adults, carried away by hand-made, make amazing things from simple materials and even on them, selling them on the Internet.

Postcards

Let's start with the simplest. Colorful homemade postcards, with some diligence, are not inferior in beauty and quality to purchased ones.

Advice: if you were suddenly invited to, and you think that you can do it yourself at home and present it to the birthday boy, start with a postcard. It's simple - even a novice handmaker can handle it, and the memory and pleasant emotions from such a gift will remain for a long time.

There are many options for postcards: simple (flat), opening, with three-dimensional figures inside; made of paper or fabric; decorated with appliqués, drawings, inscriptions, etc.

The simplest and at the same time original gift can be a postcard made with your own hands.

As for the materials, you can find everything you need to create postcards at home.

The mandatory minimum is a pencil, pen, scissors, PVA glue and, of course, paper (preferably thicker - Whatman paper or thin cardboard).

Here's what else you can use to create postcards:

  1. Colored paper. These do not have to be new sheets - the scraps left over from the child's crafts will do.
  2. Foil from chocolate and sweets.
  3. Unnecessary details from old jewelry: cabochons, rhinestones, etc.
  4. Trimming of fabrics. Almost any will work, but it is best to take samples without fluffy lint.
  5. Threads.
  6. Colored pencils, pens, markers. For the design of the inscriptions, you can take black or colored liners - they practically do not smear and draw with clear lines of a given thickness.
  7. Watercolor paints. If you have children school age, then the simplest set of watercolors at home will be found - they are quite enough for crafting postcards.

Remnants of bright fabric, beads, ribbons will be useful for making a souvenir.

In addition, you may need a clerical knife and superglue ("Moment", "Second").

The list of materials can be continued for a very long time, because literally anything can be used to create postcards.

At one time, I got myself a special box in which I put any little things that seemed suitable to me - even if at that time I did not have specific ideas for their use.

Experience has shown that in the end absolutely everything is used.

The main thing is to be patient free time and the desire to please loved one

Tip: to make your cards look stylish and harmonious, remember the most popular formats for their production: rectangle 105x148 mm (A6 format), elongated rectangle 98x210 mm, squares 140x140 and 120x120 mm.

Let's look at how to make an ordinary A6 postcard with your own hands.

  1. The first step is to prepare the foundation. Let's take the option that you will definitely find in your home: a regular A4 sheet. Fold it in half along the wide side, making sure the edges converge very accurately. Glue the sheet so that the halves fit snugly together. Let it dry, then fold over the wide side again. The base for the postcard is ready.
  2. Now come up with a design. Consider the materials available, think about which ones you want to use, which ones work best with each other. You can draw a sketch on a separate piece of paper. Visualize as much as possible in your head the postcard you want to make - and, selecting necessary materials, get to work.
  3. Process the decor elements. If you decide to place a curly paper or fabric applique on the postcard, cut out the required shape in advance. Prepare everything that you will attach to the front of the card: colored paper, bows, rhinestones, fabric, etc.
  4. If you don't want to leave the background of the card white, now you need to color it. Take watercolors or markers and apply a light coat of a suitable color. You can give the paper an antiquated effect by coloring it with tea or coffee. And if you throw a few grains of salt on wet watercolor, you get beautiful snowflake patterns. Remember to let the paper dry after painting.
  5. Decorate front side products with prepared decor.
  6. Sign the centerfold postcard and accompany it a beautiful poem or just a short congratulatory phrase.

The original homemade postcard is ready!

Do not limit yourself in experiments and flight of imagination.

Try different styles and materials, sizes and options of paper. Look for your own signature handwriting and, most importantly, don't give up if you don't like the first results.

As in any business, it all depends not only on talent, but also on perseverance and practice.

Decorations

Among the things that you can do with your own hands at home, jewelry is one of the most popular options.

You can wear them yourself or give them to someone, or you can sell them, getting from your own not only pleasure, but also material reward.

Children just love these original bracelets from ice cream sticks!

The simplest option for the manufacture of which you can attract small children is bracelets from ordinary wooden sticks from ice cream.

It should be honestly noted: such bracelets, both in size and in style, are primarily for children.

Little needlewomen and craftsmen are happy to participate in the creative transformation of familiar objects into bright jewelry - especially if you later decorate the bracelet the way he likes.

These bracelets are made very simply. You will need:

  1. Ice cream sticks (one per bracelet)
  2. Beakers of a suitable diameter

First, place all the sticks in one container and fill with water so that it completely covers our blanks.

Since they are wooden and float easily, cover the container with a lid or something else.

Check the sticks after a while. Having soaked well, they will begin to bend without breaking.

Then they need to be placed in a glass, bent inside or outside close to the walls.

I prefer to wrap the sticks around the glass, pressing on top with strong rubber bands: this way the finished product will more likely take the desired shape.

Leave the workpieces to dry in a warm, dry place.

After complete drying, the bases will remain curved, and you can start decorating the product.

A wooden bracelet for a girl can be decorated with rhinestones, turning a real princess into an accessory, and a bracelet for a boy can be decorated with the emblem of your favorite superhero.

Another useful cutie is a jewelry stand

Tip: to glue decorative elements to wood, it is better to use superglue, and after painting it is worth covering the product with varnish.

Bracelets are a rich soil for creativity. It is easy to imagine what you can do with your own hands at home, having a fishing line and beads at hand.

But I propose to pay attention to more non-standard products - Shambhala wicker bracelets, which are great for both adults and children from 12 years old.

Such a self-made product is both a talisman and a stylish accessory that combines patterned weaving with beads.

Popular Shambhala bracelets can be easily made with your own hands

To weave Shambhala you will need:

  1. An odd number of beads made of wood or natural stone.
  2. Two smaller beads - for the clasp.
  3. The base cord is of such thickness that the selected beads can be freely strung on it. Take the length of the base cord based on the girth of your wrist plus ten centimeters on each side for the fasteners.
  4. The main weave cord is three to four times longer than the base (it is better to take longer for the first tests). Thicker threads work well for braiding.
  5. One lace about forty centimeters long for making a fastener.

It is convenient to weave Shambhala bracelets from waxed threads, but it is not necessary to run for them to the store. Experiment!

I wove one of my coolest bracelets from ordinary twine and a strong "iris" thread at the base.

Advice: to make Shambhala smooth and smooth, fasten the weaving. To do this, you can use a tight stationery clip and a clipboard (or book cover).

We begin to weave. Tie a knot of braiding thread about ten centimeters from the end of the base cord so that it divides the thread into two equal length ponytails.

Now you need to knit knots from these ponytails around the base cord, alternately threading one thread under it, and the other above.

After making the desired number of knots, string the first bead onto the base and continue braiding immediately behind it.

Alternate knotted beads using gaps of your choice); at the end, do not forget to knit the same number of knots simple weaving as in the beginning. Finish with a knot.

Making designer jewelry may well become an additional source of income for you.

If you used a natural thread, apply a drop of PVA glue to the final knot, let it dry, then cut off the excess cord.

If the thread was synthetic, carefully cut the ends and burn the ponytails with a lighter or a match - of course, being careful.

Let's move on to the lock. Take the ponytails left on either side of the bracelet, fold them together, and tie several knots with a third cord.

Fasten the lock in the same way you fastened the bracelet. Put small beads on the remaining tails of the base cord and tie knots at the ends.

Your own beautiful Shambhala bracelet is ready.

Congratulations! This is an exciting activity, so do not be surprised if after a while you present these amulets to all your friends and think about where to put new products.

Sell - let others appreciate your talent!

Crafts

What can you do yourself at home for children under 10? Of course, toys are a safe bet.

Usually, for sewing dolls, you need a lot of additional materials such as special fillers, and sewing skills are higher than the basic level.

But there is also an option that the children themselves will cope with (and will be happy to help you): these are reeled dolls.

Captivate your child with making a cute motanka doll

To make them, you will need different-colored pieces of fabric - any pieces of old unnecessary clothing will do.

For the base, the body of the doll, it is better to choose something light: an old white sheet or thin burlap, but for clothes you can take any color to your taste.

You will also need ordinary sewing threads, optional ribbons and other little things for decoration.

The doll is made like this:

  1. Roll one piece of fabric into a three-dimensional rectangle or cube. This is the base of the reel head.
  2. Put a square piece of light-colored fabric on it, gather it on one side and wrap it with sewing thread. There is no need to make knots: a large number of threads will fix themselves and will not unwind.
  3. Take another square piece of light colored fabric. The length from corner to corner is the arm span of our doll, so choose accordingly. Roll this piece into a roll, wrap the sewing thread around your wrists.
  4. Tie the "sausage" of the hands to the body of the pupa under the head. It is best to do this by winding the threads crosswise.
  5. Choose a few different colored pieces of fabric for your doll's clothes. Make a skirt, preferably with two or more layers of fabric: it looks very cool. Secure the skirt with thread, twine, or tape.
  6. Another piece of fabric will be used to make a scarf. Fold a triangle from the cut and tie it around the doll's head.

Traditionally, reeled dolls are made without faces - these are impersonal amulets.

I know that faceless dolls scare some people, so if you don't put any additional meanings into it, you can safely embroider or draw a face on the fabric, giving your doll a personality.

Such a doll will at the same time become your personal amulet.

Today you learned how to create all sorts of beautiful and useful things, and I am sure that you can expand your arsenal of skills further.

For inspiration, I suggest watching this video on the topic of what you can do with your own hands at home:

The idea of making a bouquet of flowers out of paper is very good. For paper crafts, we need to purchase colored paper, cardboard, felt-tip pens, a stationery knife, tape, scissors and PVA glue.

Bouquet of paper

To begin with, you need to make three blanks for each flower, two of which should be the same color, they should have six petals.

Place one blank in front of you, on top of which stick a circle.

On the mug, pre-make holes for the eyes and mouth in the form of a smiley.

After gluing the mug with a flower, you need to paint your eyes with a black felt-tip pen, and then bend the petals inward.

The next step is to cut out the stem, which we further attach to the flower, and on the other side of the flower, attach the same blank.

You can also make leaves for a bouquet, which can be made from green paper.

First you need to draw an oval and cut it out, and then use scissors to make notches.

In order for the individual pieces of paper craft to become a single whole, tie the flowers with a ribbon or some other fabric for decorating the bouquet.

Such a bouquet will never fade and will be a great decoration for your home.

Simple crafts from plastic bottles

The simplest crafts for children include crafts from bottles.

For example, you can make a piggy bank from a bottle, for which you only need a marker, a stationery knife, dice (4 pieces), a small bottle, glue and colored paper.

The first step is to cut a straight line, the width of which can be 5 centimeters, and the length of this line should be enough to grip the bottle.

Draw eyes with a marker, and draw nostrils on the bottle cap. Using a clerical knife, cut a hole for coins.

As legs for the pig, you need to attach the dice with glue.

Note!

This craft develops the child's imagination, and is also useful in everyday life.

Ball of threads

The craft can be used as a lampshade for a lamp or simply hung as a decoration.

A ball of threads is made very simply, for its manufacture you will need colored threads, a ball, transparent glue.

First, we need to inflate the balloon and tie the tip so that the air does not come out.

Then the inflated ball must be wrapped with threads, after which glue is applied to the surface of the ball and wait until it dries.

Note!

Now you need to separate the ball from the threads, to do this, just pierce it with a needle and everything is ready for the craft.

Plasticine gnome and cones

As a simple DIY craft, you can make a gnome. For crafts, you will need directly Pine cone, light-colored plasticine, pieces of fabric, glue and a brush.

First of all, the child should roll a ball out of a piece of plasticine, after which it is necessary to make indentations for the nose, eyes and mouth on the ball using a brush.

At the next stage of our craft, you need to attach the resulting head to the top of the cone.

Then the child should cut a triangle out of the fabric and glue it on the sides, as a result, a cone should be obtained. The cone will play the role of a cap for our character.

Note!

At the end, you need to make mittens from fabric, and then attach them to the cone using plasticine and our gnome from the cone is ready.

Paper bookmark

As a simple craft for kindergarten a paper bookmark is perfect. So that children can do this simple craft they will need a pencil, ruler, colored paper, scissors and glue.

To begin with, children should draw a square measuring 20 by 20 centimeters.

Then divide the resulting square into 4 identical parts using a pencil and a ruler, in the end there will be 4 squares measuring 5 by 5 centimeters.

The second step is to divide the upper right and lower left squares in such a way as to get triangles, that is, you need to draw a line diagonally from the upper corner to the lower corner.

We do not need triangles with the outer side and can be crossed out.

Then it is necessary to cut out a figure from paper without taking into account the crossed out triangles.

The upper triangle needs to be trimmed. If everything is done correctly, then the paper will be in the shape of a diamond, to which two triangles are glued.

The next step is to fold all the triangles in half, and then alternately put them on the tip of the rhombus. You should have a pocket that fits over the end of the book page.

To make the bookmark original, children can be advised to cut some kind of applique from colored paper.
