Do-it-yourself hiking backpack: materials and accessories

In order to sew a tourist backpack with your own hands, you will need:

Dense nylon type avizent or cordura - 3 sq. m or cut 1.5*2 m
Thin nylon like parachute silk or bologna - 1 sq. m or cut 1.5*0.70 m
Isolon (tourist foam rug) - 1 sq. m, 1 cm thick
Sling narrow, 25 mm - 7 m
Sling wide 45 mm - 2 m
Tightening buckle - 14 pcs.
Snap-in buckle - 2 pcs.
Snap-in buckle, wide for belt - 1 pc.
Lightning - 20 cm, 1-3 pcs. depending on the number of pockets
Lightning - 30 cm, 1 pc.
Tape for strengthening the seams - 2 m, 1-1.5 cm wide
Tube rope - 1.30 m, 3 mm diameter
Aluminum tube - 2 pieces, length 70 cm, diameter 4 mm
or plate - 2 pieces, length 70 cm, width 2 cm

The dimensions on the pattern of the hiking backpack are indicated in centimeters, excluding seam allowances. If you want to sew not a 90 liter, but a 75 liter backpack, then reduce all dimensions of the "body" of the backpack by 10 cm, the height of the back of the backpack by 10 cm, and the circumference of the tube by 20 cm.

How to sew a backpack: cutting out the main elements

Sewing a tourist backpack begins with cutting out its main elements. Do not forget to melt the edges of the fabric with a lighter after cutting so that they do not fray. It is better to stitch the seams with nylon or lavsan threads, in a zigzag. If the machine does not zigzag, sew two parallel stitches.

Rice. one.
The “body” of the backpack is 75 * 80-85 with marked pockets if you need them (I recommend only one - the central one). At the bottom, in the corners, you can immediately sew on slings, 40 cm long and 25 mm wide, reinforcing them with fabric scarves.

Rice. a, b. Pattern of pockets, you need to sew a zipper into them (we leave the place of sewing in at your discretion, we advise you to decide on this in advance before you start sewing a tourist backpack with your own hands).

Rice. 2. The back of the backpack is 75*30 with a bottom 26*33 made of thick nylon. The bottom can be sewn separately, but it is better to cut them in one panel, which reduces the number of seams.

Rice. 3. Shoulder straps: two of thick nylon, two of thin. The same shape should be cut out two blanks of isolon (foam). The second strap must be cut in a mirror image.

Sew together a dense and thin part, stitching them to each other along the contour. Unscrew and insert a strip of isolon inside. On top of the dense side of the strap, sew a 25 mm wide sling, stitching it in 3-4 places across. The sling should end in the same place as the strap and end with a tightening buckle.

Rice. 4. Valve 32*26. Cut and sew, sewing on a thin fabric (Fig. c), as if making a box. Sew a 30 cm zipper, either along the seam or in the center of the wide wall, making a slit. Sew 4 tightening buckles on the corners.

We sew a hiking backpack: making a back

Now let's get down to the most difficult thing in such a matter as sewing a hiking backpack - making a back.

Rice. 5.
Take the previously cut back of the backpack (Fig. 2). Sew 2 strips 2.5-4 cm wide to it (tunnels for the future frame - tubes or plates).

Under the tubes, a sling 25 mm wide is suitable, under the plates - a strip of dense nylon. Sew on 6 tightening buckles as indicated on Rice. 5, 4 slings of 25 mm - 2 at the top and at the bottom. In the center of the back, sew a handle loop from a 25 mm sling at a distance of 25 cm from the top edge.

Rice. 6. Sew the finished shoulder straps over the handle loop. If your height is 170-180 cm - at a distance of 50 cm from the bottom edge. If higher - 55 cm. If lower - 45 cm. If you are not trying for yourself, then check this parameter before sewing a backpack.

Rice. eight. Cut out the detail from isolon and soft nylon. Line them up with each other.

Rice. 7. Find the part from Fig. 8 on the back of the backpack over the straps. Sew the lower part of the part (trapezoid) with two lines across the back, so that a belt can be inserted between them.

Rice. 9. The belt is made in the same way as the shoulder straps (Fig. 3): dense fabric, isolon, thin fabric are sewn together. Sew a wide sling on top (you can use a car seat belt), sew a snap-on wide buckle on one side. Attach 2 additional slings 25 mm wide, 40 cm long to the edges of the belt (they will attach the belt to the “body” of the backpack), sew buckles at the place of their “docking” with the backpack.

Rice. 10. Take the "body" of the backpack (Fig.1) and sew on it slings with a width of 25 mm as shown in the figure.

Details Rice. 10 and Rice. 7 sew together inside out - pockets and straps inward, and seams outward.

Reinforce the main seams by attaching a braid to them.

Rice. eleven. Cut out a tube in the form of a pipe from soft tissue 30*110. Bend the fabric from its wide side to make a drawstring and stitch. The width of the drawstring is 1-2 cm, depending on the thickness of the rope for tightening the tube, which you are going to thread through it.

Sew the tube to the top of the backpack. Turn out the backpack. Insert into pre-sewn strips (Fig.5) aluminum plates or tubes cut to size before stitching the backpack. Fasten the valve, insert the belt and tuck the second part of the clip-on buckle into one of its straps. Fasten the belt with thin straps to the backpack.

Inspect the backpack, if something, in your opinion, is missing, add it. Ready! You managed to successfully sew a hiking backpack with your own hands!

Perhaps, having improved our patterns, you will sew a more perfect hiking backpack with your own hands.

How to sew a small backpack from leather and other materials? Many have probably asked this question. So let's look into this. This small manual is useful, by no means, not only for jacks of all trades and professional seamstresses. Everything that will be described below in the article is very easy to do, and anyone can sew a backpack made with their own hands from old jeans!

Now you can learn how to sew a backpack with your own hands with one strap (our patterns will serve old backpack).

You can go online and find hundreds (if not more) of portfolio patterns. Women's and men's backpacks will never go out of fashion. This is easy to understand for those who have been sewing for a long time. There is an option, of course, to use them. But there is more easy way. All you need is an old backpack, which will serve as a template, or a pattern. And if someone needs a cool backpack from old jeans with your own hands, you can follow the instructions, but use old jeans as a material.

So, it's time to get the sewing machine. It is not necessary to run to the store for a new and confused, with a bunch of functions. The old Soviet one, which is gathering dust at home for many, is great. Sewing will take about a day for a beginner. Those who have experience with the machine or those who are masters in this matter will naturally complete everything faster. To begin with, it would be good to take a small piece of any fabric and practice creating an even pattern on it. straight seam. After 15-20 minutes, you can already get used to it.

Necessary materials

Was the training successful? Are your hands shaking anymore? Feel like a master? Class! What will be needed for manufacturing?

  • Needles. For beginners, it is better to buy a stronger one (for denim, for example), since they can break quickly if the sewing machine is not quite dexterous. Needles are cheap.
  • Threads suitable color. There is only one advice here. You must first decide on the color of the product and pick up a thread of the same shade.
  • Durable fabric. You can run to the store for raincoat fabric. It fits perfectly under a backpack. It will withstand loads well, and also when exposed to rain, such a fabric will keep things dry. This kind of material is quite good. It will take two pieces of 50 and 30 centimeters. The first piece of fabric will set the main tone, while the second will make the backpack more interesting.
  • Lining fabric. Also about 50 centimeters. It is better to take everything with a margin. You can choose any color, it can contrast with the main one. It will look very original and interesting.
  • Spunbond - 50 centimeters will also be needed. This material is necessary for rigidity.
  • The handle for a backpack can be sewn from a soft material measuring 40 by 7 centimeters from a rep ribbon of 40 centimeters.
  • Energoflek - 40 centimeters. This material will go to the back, as well as the bottom of the backpack. It is needed to give rigidity.

In total, in terms of money, it is quite possible to meet five hundred rubles. A variety of accessories, locks will fit either from an old backpack, or you can buy everything in the store. By the way, there is an option cut spending that money.

You can use old jeans to make a backpack. You just need to dissolve them at the seam and pick up the above dimensions. Jeans will become a replacement for raincoat fabric. And the result is a very cute, cool and fashionable denim backpack.

Sewing

So, we decided on the necessary materials. Now you can start opening the old backpack to use it as a patterns.

A backpack pattern is a must, it’s better not to do it by eye (at least for the first time). Locks and a handle can also be borrowed from an old thing. Pattern The backpack should consist of the following items:

  • The front of. All upper corners should be slightly rounded with scissors.
  • Lower part of the front.
  • Back. We also round off the top corners.
  • Lateral sides.
  • Bottom part. The corners must be rounded off.
  • The top of the pocket.
  • The bottom of the pocket. The pocket on the backpack can be made with a zipper or a clasp. Or get rid of it altogether if you don't need it. Now we take all these patterns, apply on desired material, circle and cut out each detail in triplicate. And then these three parts must be sewn together.

Now you need to carefully process all the sections. A zigzag stitch on a typewriter is perfect for this. We process all the details, except for the back and bottom. You will have to move on to them a little later. In the meantime, do not go through the sleeves to the processing of slices. After all, we don’t need rags sticking out of all the seams, right?

Yes, it's done. And now we take the untouched back and bottom. They must be attached energy flex. We fasten it together with raincoat material and spandbond. Thus, the details will become rigid. From above, you need to close everything with lining material.

We turn to the manufacture of internal pockets. From the raincoat material you need to cut a piece of 17 by 36 centimeters. We make a fold at the bottom and now sew it to the lining. In the inner part of the back we sew the lining, having previously fixed it from the edges. The back is ready, and therefore it is possible to attach handles to it, which will be thrown over the shoulders. They can be taken from old backpack.

Now let's move on to the front side. We take the necessary tenderloin that was prepared in advance, as well as the lock. It must be applied front side to the front of the workpiece and fix well with pins or small ties. The lock should lie along the perimeter of the left, upper and right parts of the front blank of the backpack. Now, using a sewing machine, you need to sew the lock to the material.

Let's move on to the side. From raincoat fabrics cut a piece of size 5 by 74 centimeters. This segment will close the lock from above. We fasten to the segment with a spandbond. Then you need to fold it in half and sew to the sidewall. We mark the middle on this blank. And now on the side. Now you can combine them along the lines and fix them with pins around the perimeter.

We unfasten the lock and sit down for sewing car. You need to carefully sew the lock to the side. After that, the lock can be fastened. Now you need to take the bottom of the front side and find the center on it. Let's mark it with a little. Now we connect with the previous part and sew.

Next, you can do the pockets, if they are on the backpack. They can be sewn to any place in front. First we fasten with pins, and then fasten with a typewriter. You can go to the bottom. As before, you need to find the middle on the workpiece, mark it. The same must be done with the front part. And then combine and sew. As a result, it should be basket.

The lock needs to be unfastened, and the basket should be covered with the back. After we fasten everything with pins, and then go through the sewing machine.

How to decorate a backpack? You can decorate various rhinestones and applications, which are very cheap, but look very beautiful. The main thing is fantasy. If the briefcase is denim, then chains made of different materials will look beautiful on it.

Class! The backpack bag is completely ready. Put it on your shoulders, it's ready to use!

And it is not at all necessary to spend some large sums on buying a standard backpack that will not fit into the style of any particular person.

After all, it is quite realistic to create a unique backpack with your own hands, the class of which will be high, while spending a minimum of your money on it. All you need is a sample, material that can be used even from old jeans (it turns out wonderful denim backpack), and a little patience.

Following this instruction, the reader can understand that tailoring backpacks is not a very difficult task!

And what will be the result? In terms of quality, a homemade backpack can come out better than a purchased one, since it will be made carefully and for yourself. After all, many faced such a problem that a recently purchased backpack quickly failed. Personalization will be a plus. Only one person in the world will have such a thing. And you can adjust the size. It is not necessary to follow the sizing instructions. You can choose your own proportions. There is nothing difficult in this. In general, we prepare the material, threads, needles and sew a backpack!

This instruction is intended for people who would like to learn how to sew a backpack with their own hands. This is not such a complicated matter, it is from the sewing of a backpack that sweatshirts often begin.

What you need:

  • Upholstery fabric measuring 145 x 160 cm.
  • some skin
  • cord 110 cm and 0.7 cm thick
  • coper tape, preferably 150 by 4 cm.
  • two belt length adjusters
  • 1 large carabiner clasp
  • 8 blocks, with an inner diameter of 0.7
  • two three-centimeter buckles with a peg
  • 2 half rings with a diameter of 4 cm.

Upholstery fabric can be obtained from your old items, such as jeans, so as not to buy a new one.

Pattern

In the picture you can find the main part, pocket and flap, as well as the dimensions of all parts of the backpack.

In addition, you need to remember about allowances. Their optimal size for seams and cuts is one centimeter. The upper section of the pocket is two, and the upper parts of the main part are 6 cm each.

cutting

To cut the backpack with our own hands, we will need to cut out two parts with a fold for the flap of the pocket and the backpack itself (so that the flaps look equally good on both sides).

If you still decide not to buy fabric, but to cut your old jeans, then keep in mind that working with such material will be a little more difficult, because the denim is quite thick.

You will also need leather. What for? We will use it for edging. All parts that must be made of leather are listed below:

  • strip 1.5 by 60 cm for the valve of the backpack itself
  • one more strip 1.5 by 40 for the pocket flap
  • two loops 6x8x3 and two more loops for half rings 8x10x4 cm (dimensions are indicated in the finished form)
  • two stalemates

Passes in strips of leather for valves are not needed. Instead of leather, you can make the edging with another material you like.

We sew a backpack with our own hands

Now that you've done the cutting, it's time to sew all the details. Tailoring process:

  1. The allowance made for the upper cut is turned to the front side
  2. carefully fold it and sew it with a sewing machine or a needle
  3. warm up the allowances for the lower and side cuts with an iron
  4. fold pocket
  5. fold lines need to be laid on the previously smoothed edges, after which we smooth the side and bottom folds
  6. making seams at the corners
  7. again with an iron we smooth the folds in the corners.

Loops

After all the manipulations, inside out, fold the short belt loops in half. Do not forget to tuck the allowance along the cut. In the right places, it is worth stitching the edge of our belt loops. After that, we cut off unnecessary allowances.

In one of the loops you need to make a hole for the buckle pin. The distance from the end of the loop should be approximately two centimeters. Now you can thread the loop through the buckle. The second end of the loop must be tucked so that in the end it is 4 centimeters long.

We attach a loop to the pocket of the backpack so that it looks up.

Next, you need to do the second loop. It needs to make another hole for the buckle. After that, we make a line 1.5 cm from the bend. We sew a loop on the front side of the backpack. She must also look up.

We sew the pocket and start working on the valve.

Valve

We sew our two blanks for the valve and trim the edges with the selected material. Now we sew the valve to the main part and iron it down. The pocket valve is done the same way.

The main part of the backpack

Fold the main part of the backpack in half and sew together. Carefully tuck the allowances in the upper part and make a few seams.

Pata

We need to tuck the shackle and sew it on the valve of our homemade backpack. The length with which the stalemate should be on the valve is approximately 3 centimeters. In the same way we sew a patch to the pocket.

The seam is quite simple, repeat as in the picture:

Straps

We fold the copper tape with the letter V. Sew the lower part of the letter to the upper edge of the back of the backpack. The seam should be exactly in the center. Using the strap length regulator, we pass the ends of the copper tape through it. We fasten the carabiner clasp at one end of the belt, and push the other through the half-ring of the corners of the backpack.

Next, we tighten the top of the homemade backpack. To do this, at a distance of 10 centimeters from each other and 4 from the top edge, insert the blocks around the perimeter. We put the cord through the holes. Make knots at both ends so that the cord does not fly out.

Now you know how to sew a backpack with your own hands. If the sewing process seemed too difficult for you, then we suggest that you familiarize yourself with berghaus backpacks.

This do-it-yourself backpack master class + pattern will be useful not only for needlewomen, but also for those who do not like to wait a long time for a package from Aliexpress. The fact is that I am also a regular buyer of goods from Ali, and from time to time I take the opportunity to buy cute little things for a low price, one of which was my backpack two years ago.

Why I decided to sew a backpack with my own hands, and not buy a ready-made thing

This canvas backpack from aliexpress traveled with me around and, and I also constantly exploited it at home on grocery trips. I got so used to this comfortable thing that I was very upset when I saw how it had already begun to come apart at the seams. This thing was no longer subject to repair, and its appearance was worn out. So I decided to find a replacement for him.

After looking for similar backpacks in the open spaces of aliexpress, I read all the reviews on them. Unfortunately, most of them said that all these bags are not reliable: handles are torn and locks often fail. After weighing the pros and cons, I decided that I would try to sew a backpack with my own hands. So I will definitely be sure of the quality of the thing and make it the way I like it and it is convenient for me. And since I have an old backpack, I used it as a pattern for a pattern.

Let's sew with me! For me, this is the first experience in sewing such a thing, so it was interesting for me to work on it. I will say more - I sat at the sewing machine well after midnight. The time it took me for tailoring is about one day with breaks for personal and family matters.

I will say right away - sewing an aliexpress backpack turned out to be not an easy task. Therefore, I advise you to take up sewing if you have little experience in sewing. For beginners, this master class will be more difficult to master.

What did I need to sew a backpack with my own hands

Since in the process of sewing I broke a lot of firewood in the form of broken machine needles, the first thing I advise you to buy strong needles for sewing. Mine is number 110 "for denim and canvas."

Fabrics and accessories for sewing a backpack:

  • Dense raincoat fabric with water-repellent impregnation - 50 cm. It will set the main tone (color) of the backpack.
  • Dense raincoat fabric with water-repellent impregnation - 30 cm. This protective print will interestingly beat a backpack.
  • Lining fabric - 50 cm. You can take a color in contrast. For example, I have always liked bags with a bright and unusual lining.
  • Spunbond or isolon - 50 cm. This fabric will give rigidity and shape to the backpack.
  • Rep tape 40 cm each and length regulators - 2 pcs. for handles
  • Metal lock 75 cm.
  • Metal lock 20 cm for pocket
  • Stripe
  • Threads in color - 1 spool

Sewing tools for tailoring a backpack:

  • machine needle No. 100 - 110
  • foot for sewing on a zipper - single-legged
  • sewing tools: ripper, scissors, tailor's pins

I spent 270 rubles on all fabrics and accessories. I did not purchase locks, handles and energy flex, but took it from an old backpack.

Energoflex, or isolon, is a foam base on the back and bottom of the backpack, to stiffen it. It needs 40 cm. It is sold in the construction department, you may have left it after laying the laminate or

2. I cut out each detail of the pattern in triplicate.

3. I sew three layers of fabrics together along the edge, I process open cuts on an overlock or a zigzag stitch. I am doing step 2 and step 3 with each detail of the backpack (I don’t sew the back and bottom yet).

4. Next, on the back (detail 3) and bottom (detail 5) of the backpack I put a layer of energy flex. Which needs to be quilted together with raincoat fabric and spandbond, with this I will fix it and stiffen the details. Then I cover the top with lining.

5. This is what the back of the backpack looks like from the front. I immediately fix the handle on top (pattern with seam allowances 3 x 19 cm.).

6. I make two pockets from raincoat fabric: I cut out a segment of 17 x 36 cm, make a fold at the bottom in the middle of each pocket and sew them onto the lining. Inside the back I sew the lining, fixing it along the edges and through the middle.

7. I attach two backpack handles on top and on the sides of the back.

8. Now I turn to processing the front of the backpack. I take a shelf (item No. 1), unfasten the lock 75 cm, apply it with the front side to the front and fix it with pins around the perimeter as in the photo. I sew a lock on a sewing machine using a special single-horned foot for sewing on a zipper. Then you can fasten the lock.

9. I take the sidewall (detail 4). I cut out a piece of 5 x 74 cm from the raincoat fabric - it will close the lock from above. I duplicate this segment with a spandbond, fold it in half and sew it on a typewriter to the sidewall.

10. I find the middle of parts 1 and 4 (shelves and sides), make marks with tailor's chalk, combine them in the center.

11. I put parts 1 and 4 on top of each other front sides inside, aligning the chalk marks. I fix it around the perimeter with pins.

12. Now the lock needs to be unfastened.

13. On a sewing machine, I sew a lock to the sidewall using a special single-horned foot for sewing a zipper.

14. I fasten the lock. I take the lower part of the front (detail 2), find the middle, put marks with chalk. I connect these parts together on a typewriter.

Master class on how to sew a voluminous patch pocket with a zipper.

15. I take a ready pocket. I mark with chalk a place for a pocket. I did it by eye, fasten it where it will be convenient for you. I attach the pocket to the front with pins, then on the sewing machine.

16. I take the bottom (detail 5, it needs to be quilted, as I showed in paragraph 4 of the article) and the front of the backpack. I combine these details in the middle.

17. I fasten the parts together with pins, then on a sewing machine.

18. It turns out such a “basket”.

19. I unfasten the lock. I cover this “basket” with a lid - a back (detail 3). I fasten together with pins and on a sewing machine.

20. That's all - my backpack, which I sewed with my own hands, is ready. I can safely use it and not be afraid that the handles will come off!

Why is it worth sewing a backpack according to an aliexpress pattern

To be honest, I really liked the result. Then my relatives, seeing this backpack, also asked to sew the same ones for them. My daughter had to sew exactly the same, she chose the colors herself in the store. From the photo you can understand what her favorite color is. For the winter, it turned out to be bright, and cheers up on gray cloudy days.

If you have a desire and a little experience in sewing - definitely sew. Since in terms of quality it will surpass its original with aliexpress. I have it compared to the old one, it holds its shape much better. Locks can also be put much more reliably, and it will last you much longer. So feel free to use this backpack pattern.

And another weighty argument is that - now I can carry my laptop in a backpack. The fact is that my laptop did not fit in an old backpack, and this was a real problem for me. Since my work is connected with a computer, I have to take it with me on trips. And now I can safely collect all the things in one backpack, and throw my laptop in the same place. It's insanely convenient! No need to collect a bunch of bags, everything fits in one bag.

Backpacks do not lose their relevance for a long time, remaining a trendy accessory. Especially appreciated handmade because handmade products are unique. For the manufacture of stylish accessory at home, you will need a backpack pattern, suitable fabric and decor elements. Another important criterion for success is creativity and inspiration of the craftswoman.

To sew a backpack with your own hands, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • needle;
  • threads;
  • thimble;
  • scissors;
  • the cloth;
  • a piece of dry soap for marking.

It is better to sew a product from the following materials:

  • jeans, fabric without elastane is used;
  • cotton holds its shape well, is breathable and pleasant to the touch, which is important for a backpack, because it is worn on the back;
  • dense synthetic fabrics are interesting for their colors, they can be bright and painted, with an attractive pattern, such bags do not need additional decoration.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the material does not stretch much under the load and does not crumble at a break. The disadvantage of synthetics is that a backpack made from such fabrics collects odors and is unpleasant on the back in summer. This material does not pass air and water well, but this property can be used to protect things in the bag from rain by making the surface two-layered.

To create a lining are used:

  • satin - differs in density, reliability and wear resistance;
  • viscose - more reliable than satin;
  • cupro - by appearance recalls natural silk, characterized by softness and elasticity;
  • polyester is a durable and easy-care fabric that does not absorb dirt well;
  • satin - a material made of cotton and silk threads;
  • mesh - has cells, passes air well;
  • taffeta is a tough fabric that can hold its shape.

It remains to decide how to sew a backpack without expensive accessories. You can make it yourself or remove it from old bags, jackets and other things. For decor use:

  • buckles, belts and fasteners from old things;
  • fringe made of leather or fabric;
  • a tourniquet twisted from colored threads (can be used for tying);
  • unusual buttons, beads, rhinestones;
  • ropes of different diameters and colors;
  • felt appliqués;
  • patchwork, ribbon embroidery;
  • decorative zippers.

When choosing jewelry, you need to take into account that the accessory is subject to increased mechanical stress and gets dirty. It is unpleasant when a thing becomes unusable due to one damaged application or a lost bead. Removable fittings make it easier to wash the backpack and allow you to freshen up the thing in a simple way, for example, by changing the color of the cord.

There are two ways to sew a backpack with your own hands: using sewing machine or manually. The first option facilitates and speeds up the manufacturing process of the product.

How to use a pattern

If beginner needlewomen do not know how to sew a backpack with their own hands, they simply need step-by-step instructions and patterns. They will help bring your vision to life. There are ready-made patterns of backpacks with sizes, they are easy to transfer to a sheet of paper in full size.

For self-construction of a pattern, the following materials are needed:

  • sheet of paper (you can use tracing paper or newspaper);
  • pencil;
  • meter tape;
  • ruler;
  • square.

You can make your own corner rounder. To do this, draw a circle on cardboard with a radius of 18 or 20 cm, cut out one third of the circle. With the use of such a device, rounded corners are symmetrical.

For a basic backpack pattern, two measurements are enough:

  • shoulder width;
  • back height from waist.

It is necessary to draw a rectangle on a sheet of paper, the width of which is less than the width of the shoulders. It is important to consider that the backpack should not fall below the waist, it will be uncomfortable. Then you should draw a vertical line through the middle of the rectangle - the central axis. Next, bend a sheet of paper along the axis and draw the contours of the desired shape of the backpack. You should cut along these contours, you get a symmetrical pattern. If additional details are planned, such as pockets, a lid or a sliding bottom, they are easy to mark on basic pattern matching sizes.

To decipher the pattern, you need to know the basic notation:

  • line with an arrow - lengthen;
  • a line with small triangles is a connection line;
  • the same numbers inside the pattern - the places where the details match;
  • transverse dashes - alignment marks;
  • the arrow between the lines is the place of the fold;
  • cross - a place for sewing on a button.

If a decision is made to cut according to a finished, but more complex pattern, then you will have to translate it into natural size. The measurements are in centimeters. In this case, it is more convenient to replace the paper thick cloth. The cut parts are laid out on the material and circled with a pointed piece of soap. Before cutting out the details, you need to find out whether the pattern is given with a seam allowance or not. More often it is given without an allowance, then the elements should be cut out with an indent of 1-1.5 cm. Sometimes the purl seams are processed with a double turn - first the seam is stitched, then it is brought inside out and sewn again. Such seams are neat and serve as additional support for the backpack. The allowance for them when cutting should be given more.

Pattern development based on the backpack model

Sewing a backpack with your own hands gives you freedom in choosing styles. It must be understood that copying factory models may not be successful due to the lack of reinforcing parts and machining, for example, plastic edging of seams, metal corner fasteners, hard bottom. Even if you make an accurate pattern of details, the finished backpack will be very different.

The strengths of independent tailoring of backpacks are the originality of models with an individual approach. Also, the advantages of manual processing of products are the artistry of the image, unusual connecting seams, and decorative design.

Children's

Kids love animal backpacks. Carve out " bunny ears” or sewing on buttons-eyes is easy, and the child is happy.

On the basic pattern, be sure to narrow the top in relation to the bottom. It is better if in cross section such a backpack is close to the triangle with the tip up. The bottom is calculated according to the pattern. You can make it from two parts, an accordion, reinforcing the edges of the accordion with a strong braid.

It is convenient to tighten the top with a drawstring, and so that things do not fall out of the backpack, you can provide a hinged lid. On children's backpacks, decoration in the form of a pompom looks good.

If the child will wear a backpack to school, then for notebooks and books you can make a lining with compartments and even with fasteners. Fabric fit thinner and more subtle. If the lining of the backpack is made removable, then it will be more convenient to wash it.

Torba

The most suitable model for a backpack sewn with your own hands - this is a sack. For creative people, artistically gifted, this model is a godsend. The simple design leaves room for creating looks ranging from the dreamily romantic to the strictly ascetic.

Torba - a tightening bag on the straps. The form is old and traditional. The pattern of such a backpack is a rectangle. The bottom edges of the product can be rounded or left sharp if desired. The size is chosen at the discretion of the master.

The top does not need to be narrowed, as the bag is tightened with a drawstring. The fabric should be soft, giving beautiful folds, then the top itself, assembled with a fan, will already be an ornament.

  1. Romantic sack bags are very suitable for slender girls. The straps can be made braided, a regular braid, and the edges of the bag can be decorated with a fringe with beads at the end.
  2. For a woman of mature age, a bag-backpack can be issued as a duffel bag. Choose the color of the backpack harmoniously with the dress, and throw a painted scarf over your shoulders, wrapping its end around your neck.
  3. A backpack bag in protective tones is suitable for men who prefer a casual style. A sack made of dense waterproof fabric will be indispensable for fishing, hunting, and camping.

As straps, you can use several thick ropes that do not even need to be sewn. For women - colored ropes, for men - single-color, calm tones. You can adjust the length of the straps simple tying two ends, in places where the knot will not rub. Backpacks with such straps look stylish.

From old jeans

Many are interested in how to sew a backpack from jeans with their own hands, a pattern for which is missing. In this case, you can build it yourself or find a master class with a similar model and take a pattern from there.

The easiest sewing option is a backpack without a bottom.. In such a product, its function is performed by the front part, increased in volume. Measurements are approximate and should be subject to individual adjustments.

  1. The back is slightly tapered, 26 cm wide. You can make it slightly rounded in the middle by adding no more than 3 cm on each side.
  2. The front part is cut out in the form of a semicircle, with a radius of 38 cm.
  3. Valve cover - rounded. It is better if it is one-piece with a back. It should fall freely and beautifully on a tightened backpack.
  4. The straps are sewn from the same denim. If there is not much material, you can replace them with decorative cords.
  5. The loop handle is sewn on if desired, so that it is convenient to take the backpack in hand.

The center of the semicircle and the lower edge of the back are aligned along the axial vertical of the pattern. The edges of the semicircle are sewn to the back. The top of the backpack is tightened with a drawstring and covered with a flap. Straps are sewn into the top and bottom edges of the back.

To cut this model, you need a wide panel of fabric. If this is not there, you can sew it from pieces, so this backpack is suitable for technology patchwork.

Patchwork style

Knowledge of the technique of patchwork allows you to make beautiful things from small remnants of fabric. Flaps can be sewn in a chaotic manner or in the form of a specific ornament.

Especially cutting the fabric into pieces seems unreasonable, it is better to proceed from those scraps that have already accumulated at home. Therefore, you should not strive to repeat exactly the models seen somewhere. But you should focus on the backpack you like, improving it at your discretion.

A patchwork backpack sewn according to a pattern without a bottom can be decorated to your taste. For example, arrange a valve in the form of diverging rays or petals. Make up the straps from transverse strips or weave them obliquely. Leave the front part plain or make it up from longitudinal inserts that look beautiful in folds.

Before you sew a new backpack, you must make a pattern for it. It is enough to draw the shape of the future product on a piece of paper, and then cut it out and transfer it to the fabric. Do not be afraid to spoil the materials in case of failure. Negative experience quickly pays off with acquired skill.
