Disco ball with your own hands. We arrange a disco at home: do-it-yourself disco ball

Disco ball is an original craft that is perfect for a home party. This mirror ball will add style, dynamics and flavor to a disco or party. Works disco ball from the network. When turned on, the ball rotates and bunnies start running around the room from a light source directed at it. Any holiday will become more fun and interesting with the use of a disco ball. The disco ball is made from improvised material.

How to make a disco ball with your own hands

1. For work, you will need the following materials and tools: 30 pieces of DVD discs (preferably double-sided) for a balloon with a diameter of 30 cm, a balloon of the selected size, PVA glue, Moment glue, newspapers, hardware (a screw with a ring, two nuts and two washers ), brush for applying PVA glue, scissors, ruler, awl, felt-tip pen.

2. Mirrors for the ball will be cut from DVD discs. To do this, we mark the disk into squares with a side of 10 mm. We make the markup along the ruler with a felt-tip pen, then mark the disk with an awl along the marked lines. Cut the disk into squares with scissors. The discs will cut better with scissors and not crack if the discs are held in hot water for a few seconds (determined by experience).

3. The size of the ball depends on the desire and possibilities. We take a balloon (necessarily round) and inflate it to a diameter of 30 cm.

4. The basis of the ball is made using papier-mâché technology, this has already been done on the site. We cut small pieces of newsprint of arbitrary shape. We glue newspaper pieces with our own hands using PVA glue to the ball and to neighboring pieces of paper. Dry the first layer. And so we glue five layers of paper.

5. Do not rush to deflate the balloon after the fifth layer. Dry the applied layers to such a state that the glued sphere will represent a solid object (determined by tapping with a ringing response).

6. Blow off the balloon. We fasten two nuts to the screw with a ring, there should be two washers between the nuts. We make the distance between the nuts 2-3 cm.

7. We fix the screw in the hole from the balloon (see photo). If necessary, a small incision is made to insert the bottom nut and washer inside.

Screw fixed

8. Regarding the suspension, mark the equator of the ball.

9. We glue the squares of the mirrors with stripes from the equator to the poles using Moment glue or Liquid Nails glue.

10. The motor drive is purchased ready-made or made on the basis of a motor with a gearbox with a large gear ratio (for example, a motor from a microwave oven table, other similar motors with a gearbox). In this design, an engine with a gearbox from an artificial flower opening drive (2 rpm) was used. The motor reducer is placed in a housing made of aluminum mug and attached to the ceiling with self-tapping screws.

11. We hang a mirror ball on the engine, we direct light at it. As a light source, it is necessary to use incandescent lamps - conventional or halogen, it is also possible to use powerful LED light sources.

Many of us remember the days when disco music ruled all the dance floors. An integral element of those times was a mirror disco ball. If you remember and love this time, try making a disco ball in your apartment.

Materials and tools

  • Mirror
  • glass cutter
  • Ruler
  • Newspapers
  • Paste

Any glue suitable for attaching a mirror to a papier-mâché mold will do, I suggest glue for ceiling tiles.

Technology

First you need to decide on the size of your ball. There are no restrictions here, only the amount of material used and time.

Be sure to prepare the room for glass work. During operation, small mirror shavings will certainly appear - cover the floor with newspapers, cover interior items with suitable material.

Pick up a mirror, preferably thin (any one will do, but thin is easier to cut). The mirror is cut with a glass cutter into squares about 1 cm by 1 cm in size.

Cutting a mirror

  1. The mirror is placed on a flat hard surface. Next, a ruler is applied to it, along which the mirror is cut into long strips (cut from the front side).
  2. Finished strips are similarly divided into squares 1 cm by 1 cm.
  3. After that, the squares are carefully knocked out from the back of the mirror with a glass cutter.

Tip: When dividing the mirror into small squares, mark several squares at once, it will be faster.

We make the base (ball)

The ball will be made from .

  1. Cooking paste. There are many recipes, personally I used the following. Boil 5 parts of water, pour ¼ part of flour diluted in one part of cold water into it, boil for 2 minutes.
  2. We inflate the balloon of the desired size (it is important that the balloon itself is round).
  3. Cut paper into strips (preferably newsprint).
  4. On a dry ball, we begin to stick paper soaked in paste (no need to wet the paper too much, it will dry for a long time). We make as many layers as possible, let the layers dry, and apply the next. The ball should be strong enough to hold a mirror.
  5. After waiting for the paper to dry, we pierce the inner ball and take it out.
  6. The base is ready.

final stage

  1. We make fasteners with which the ball will be attached to the desired surface. To this end, you need to wrap the ball in several places with a nylon rope (imagine the ball as a globe and wrap it with a rope along the meridians and the equator). All threads must be smeared with glue, at the top of the head, collect the threads in one bundle, which will become the mount. Also possible are options with fastening according to the principle of Christmas tree decorations, using wire.
  2. We hang the ball on the mount (so that it is convenient for you to work with it).
  3. We glue the ball with mirror squares using glue (I suggest glue for ceiling tiles) - we start with the “top” of the ball. Paste in horizontal rows. Try to place the mirror pieces as close to each other as possible - the amount of light reflected from the ball and the appearance of the decoration will depend on this.

We hang the ball in the place you need, spin it, direct the light on it and turn on the hits of the 80s! The disco is starting!

In our computer age, many people have old and already unnecessary disks at home, which seem to be a pity to throw away and have nowhere to use them. But why is there nowhere?

Each of us at least once thought about what can be done from the old ones lying around. Did you know that discs + your imagination = super disco ball. And to implement this in life is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Choose the discs you use carefully. It all depends on your idea - do you want to make a multi-colored ball or using only one color in the composition. Since all discs have different shades.

At the expense of the shape of the pieces for the disco ball, it also all depends on your idea. Someone cuts out all the fragments of only one shape: in the form of squares or small rectangles. And someone cuts out pieces of various sizes and shapes. Crafts from disks are interesting both to make and use.

Making a ball out of CDs

Collect all your old disks.

Cut each CD into small squares.

Kitchen scissors are more suitable for this work, ordinary ones can break right away.

In addition, the scissors should not be thin, otherwise your hands will hurt. And the scissors must be sharp, sharpen them before use.

Gather all your pieces together. As a result, you will get a lot of small squares.

Cut out an even ball from a large piece of foam plastic with your own hands, the author made a small ball. For a disco, of course, it is better to cut a larger ball, 4 times.

Take to create homemade. As you can see, you can make crafts from old CDs without spending a lot of money on materials.

Immediately make a hole in the ball, where you can pass a fishing line or something else that you can hang your ball on.

To begin, glue your little squares together, starting from the center of the ball. Go all the way from top to bottom. Continue to glue the pieces in this way until you cover the entire ball.

Leave the top of the disco ball uncovered. This is a good place for jagged pieces left at the end. At the top, the pieces are the least visible.

Hang the ball from the ceiling or chandelier.

Now you have a mini disco ball, plus you've put your old CDs to good use.

Imagine, try to do different things and you will succeed!

Making a disco ball:

Preparatory stage:

First you need to decide on the size of your ball. There are no restrictions here, only in the amount of material used and time.
As a reflector for our ball with a diameter of 30 cm, we will use discs, we need 30 of them. Pick up DVD discs, preferably double-sided. These discs have a mirror-reflective tint and are comfortable to work with.
We mark with a felt-tip pen and a ruler on disks squares measuring 1 square. see After that, mark again with an awl (the felt-tip pen will be washed off). The discs will cut well with scissors if you hold the discs in hot water (a few seconds).
Next, you need to prepare the base for the ball. The ball will be made using papier-mâché technology.

Main job:

We inflate the balloon of the desired size (it is important that the balloon itself is round).
We cut small pieces of paper of arbitrary shape (newsprint is better). We use PVA glue and do not forget to dry after each layer (at least 5 layers). When all the layers have dried, we begin to blow off the balloon and then take it out. In place of the hole from the ball we insert a device for hanging. (See photo)

On the basis, we mark the equator with a ruler, because we will start gluing from the middle and finish with the poles. Next, we glue the finished squares from the discs with Moment glue.

In custody:
I found a suitable mains powered motor for my ball. The engine makes about 2 revolutions per minute.

Many people know what a disco ball is and what it is, but not everyone has such an item at home. Would you like to diversify the image of your room interior and give it a little magic? We offer you to watch this video tutorial and learn how to make a mirror disco ball that will spin on its own.

The creation method used here is quite simple and does not require special knowledge in lighting engineering or any other. At the same time, the simplest and easily accessible materials are used:

  • mirror plastic or you can take a regular CD;
  • Christmas ball on a plastic ball;
  • clockwork;
  • hot glue;
  • scissors.

We take mirror plastic and cut it into small squares.

We glue squares of mirror plastic on it with hot glue. We start from the top, glue the ball in a circle, gradually go to the center of the lower part - the hole made.

We are working on the clock mechanism. To do this, we take a plastic pipe, the diameter of which coincides with the hole of the mirror ball, and fix it on the clockwork.

We install the clock mechanism in one half of the ball, having previously threaded the tube through the hole.

The disco ball is complete. At the end of the pipe, you can make a stand and attach LEDs to it on thin tubes directed towards the ball. Or put it as it is, and direct any beam of light to the ball. The video tutorial uses the simplest way to create a mirror ball, but you can modify it however you like.
