Do you want to do needlework and create something beautiful and fast, but there is no way to buy materials?

See how to make a do-it-yourself topiary from napkins using our step-by-step master class as a basis. Such a craft can be made in one evening, while watching TV, and even at work, if you have nothing to do there. A spectacular bouquet will decorate your home, desktop or become a nice gift. If the first time you can’t form a rose, practice, the material costs a penny, so you don’t have to save.

Preparation for work

About and about what it is, we have already talked about. For the manufacture of beautiful spherical decorations, fabrics, paper, coffee beans, coins, artificial flowers are used - ready-made or hand-picked.

To make a topiary from napkins of the same size as in our master class, you will need:

  • at least two packs of paper napkins of different colors of good quality, you can take bright or delicate ones to your liking, white ones are suitable for training;
  • newspaper;
  • threads;
  • glue "Moment";
  • ribbon for wrapping gifts (two colors);
  • glass bottle;
  • piece of fabric;
  • cord;
  • scissors;
  • wooden stick or skewer.

Assembly step by step

A classic topiary should be in the shape of a ball, so you first need to prepare the base. You can make it yourself by crumpling the newspaper and forming a ball. The resulting base should be wrapped with threads to secure.

This is the most budget option, foam blanks can be bought at needlework stores. You can use not a ball, but a heart if you want to make a symbolic present.

Any stick or wooden skewer that needs to be stuck into the crown can be used as a leg for topiary from napkins.

The bouquet consists of delicate roses. To make a rose, you need to unfold a paper napkin and twist it into a tube, starting to twist from the corner.

Then roll the tube so that you get a rose.

In order for the rose to retain its shape, it is necessary to twist the edge of the napkin, forming a ponytail.

When the base and roses are ready, carefully trim the edges of the napkin tails and glue the flowers onto the newspaper base, alternating colors.

In this master class, it took 26 napkin flowers to create a topiary with a diameter of about 10 cm.

After all the roses are glued on, move on to additional decoration to help hide the gaps. To do this, you need narrow ribbons for gift wrapping. Cut the ribbon into pieces (up to 10 cm) and insert between the roses.

The finished topiary can be put in a vase, but if there is none, then any stable glass bottle, for example, from a medicine, will do. Decorating the bottle is quite easy if you wrap it with a piece of fabric of a suitable color and wrap it with a cord, tying a bow.

If the neck of the bottle is too noticeable, you can wrap it with packing tape, securing it with tape or glue.

Such an unusual bouquet of roses will decorate any interior. The size of the craft and its colors can be absolutely anything, it all depends on the desire and imagination of the author.

Each of us, who at least once was in a gift shop, met an interesting and beautiful product on the shelves - a topiary. Their cost is quite high, but you can save money and make your craft with the help of improvised materials. The basis for the topiary will be paper flowers. How to make roses for topiary from the most ordinary paper napkins, we will consider in our do-it-yourself master class.

Learning to make do-it-yourself topiary from napkins with step-by-step instructions

To create jewelry from napkins, you need to buy the required materials, and first of all, of course, you should purchase several packages of napkins. For clarity, all stages of creating a flower are shown in the photo.

  1. Take a stack of napkins and cut it into squares of equal size.
  2. After everything is prepared, we fold each of the squares in half, slightly twisting the corners, as a result we get a shape resembling a petal. To create a bud, you will need about 10-12 of these blanks.
  3. Next, let's move on to the middle part. To do this, roll up a square of napkin, press the inner end, and then wrap it with petals.
  4. To complete the flower, let's prepare the leaves. To do this, take green napkins and cut each into 2 parts. Next, twist them so that you get the shape of a leaf. We will wrap the threads that are visible on the buds with a sheet blank and fix the composition using glue. As a result, we should get a rose.
  5. To create the crown of the topiary, we also use napkins and twist the ball, which should be wrapped with threads.
  6. After the design has dried, we proceed to its design. To do this, glue all the resulting flowers and leaves.

Also, to create a flower, you can use another no less interesting technique, with the help of which the buds will have a magnificent appearance. To do this, take a napkin and fold it in half twice. We fasten the resulting square in the center with a stapler and cut out a circle from the resulting shape. An example view is shown in the photo.

The blank turned out to be sixteen layers. To make it take the form of a flower, we take the top word, lift it up and arbitrarily squeeze it towards the center. And in this way we compress all the remaining layers. In order for the flower to have a magnificent shape, it should be compressed so that each layer does not repeat the shape of the previous layers.

Create a one-color rose from napkins for a tree

Let's see how to make a simple one-color topiary doily rose.

Take a napkin, unfold it completely, then bend one side, and wrap it in a tube on the perpendicular side.

Before rolling into a tube, slightly bend the tip of the napkin.

Leave a little space for the bud, and twist the rest into a stem. From the bottom tip we will make a leaflet.

Is it simple? Let's complicate the task and make our rose even more beautiful.

Two-component rose from napkins for topiary.

In addition to a plain rose, you can make an original composition of two colors. To do this, first of all, we will make a flower using the example of a single-color rose.

Next, take a green napkin and fold it once to get a fold in the middle. We wrap the flower in a napkin so that its ends are at the bottom of the bud. We twist the rest on the stem.

From our master class, you learned how to make a topiary from napkins. Thanks to this knowledge, you can easily decorate a festive table, make an original gift with your own hands, and use roses as accessories. Your loved ones will be surprised, and you are glad that you were able to cheer them up.

Video on the topic of the article

To consolidate the result, check out our selection of videos. Happy viewing!

Good afternoon friends! Today I have my boasts - my first do-it-yourself topiary. For a long time I was attracted by these beautiful decorative trees in the photo, and finally, I decided to do it myself. I watched a video of how others do it, and began to think about what material I should create my first works from.

To begin with, I tried to make the simplest topiary: from coffee beans and from napkins. As it turned out, these are the most popular types of topiary.

Moreover, I have everything topsy-turvy - turned out to be wrong, at first I made it from the materials that I have at home, I just bought napkins and braid, and then I began to study what the needlewomen advise.

So I’ll write a step-by-step guide, I took both photos and videos of some moments, but I don’t pretend to be a master class for beginners.

Topiary - tree of happiness

A small artificial tree, which is a topiary, is considered a tree of happiness, as it brings good luck and prosperity to our home, creates comfort, beauty, good mood and can serve as a talisman.

The types of topiary are very diverse: they can be quite miniature and not very, both classic in the form of a round crown standing in a flower pot, and made in the form of a heart, floating from a cup or made on an inverted glass.

And at the Fair of Masters you can buy a topiary as a gift: the price for such a product is on average from 500 to 4000 rubles.

But you can try to make a decorative tree with your own hands.

What is needed for the topiary

for the crown, to choose from:

  • coffee beans
  • paper napkins
  • artificial flowers
  • shells
  • cones
  • satin ribbons
  • candy
  • fruit
  • cotton pads
  • coins
  • banknotes
  • beads
  • knitted roses and other flowers
  • decorative butterflies
  • cereals
  • corrugated paper
  • and in general everything that can come to mind.

These elements are glued with a thermal gun to the base, which is a foam blank (ball, heart, triangle) or papier-mâché.

Ball for topiary you can also make from foil, newspapers and even polyurethane foam.

Topiary barrel made from any materials at hand: wire, twigs, pencil, bamboo sticks, etc.

The tree is fixed on stand, a flower pot is best suited for this purpose, but you can also use different cups, teapots, jars.

Gypsum, alabaster, cement, putty, prepared according to the corresponding material instructions, are used as a fixative.

In addition, materials will be needed for additional decoration of the crown and trunk. Let your imagination tell you how to decorate a topiary: with ribbons, beads, paper, organza, lace, etc.

Do-it-yourself simple topiary: a step by step description

Therefore, as glue, I used Moment glue, and to fix the barrel in the stand, I used ordinary clay, which is full around my house. Maybe this is not the best option, but when dry it is very hard and the trees in it hold perfectly, and I am not going to turn my topiary on my head.

I also made the balls with my own hands, although I planned to buy at first, but then I saw videos, as it turns out, they can be easily made.

For the test, I chose the simplest topiary.

Coffee bean topiary

This is my first job that I studied.

  1. The first thing I did was make a ball out of aluminum foil. It is very simple: I unwound a piece of about 30 cm long from a roll of foil, folded it four times, and then, holding the edges, crushed them and crumpled the ball with my hands. At first it seemed too small to me, then I wound a few more layers of foil on top.

The ball turned out to be very dense and almost smooth.

Coffee topiary should have been made on a dark basis so that gaps between the grains were not noticeable. Usually the foam ball is dyed with brown paint before the grains are glued.

Although I thought about it, I didn’t have paint, and the ball was made of foil, I don’t know if it would be painted. So I came up with another way out of this situation.

And only later I found out that it was possible to wrap it with a bandage dyed in coffee or tea.

  1. So, the base - the ball is ready, the next step would be to insert the barrel into it.

But first I glued the coffee beans, I saw in the videos that they also do this. In the case of coffee, this is not important, but if the crown of the tree is made of fragile materials, then during the connection process there is a risk of damaging them.

I glued the grains one at a time, starting from the central part, i.e., first along the diameter, and then gradually moved further.

After drying, a second layer of coffee was glued to the gaps. So I solved this problem, and the ball turned out to be more voluminous.

  1. For the trunk, I took three bamboo sticks from an old napkin, which began to fall apart.

I wrapped them with twine, planting them on top and bottom with glue.

I made a hole in the ball with scissors, put some glue into it and inserted the stem.

  1. The most pleasant moment in this whole process for me was the decor of the jar for the coaster.

At first I tried on a flower pot, but it turned out to be too big for my little topiary, then I found an old salt shaker that had been idle for a long time.

She wrapped it with twine, and glued two pigtails woven from the same twine along the upper edge.

Additionally, I decorated it with a number of finishing beads, I once bought them specially for decorating something. I love this jar so much!

  1. She poured clay into the coaster, poured some water on it and planted her tree there. Placed coffee beans on top.

6. I attached a twine bow to the trunk.

This do-it-yourself coffee bean topiary looks great next to the twine box that I once made.

Topiary from napkins

I wanted to make the second tree of happiness from paper napkins in two colors - white and pink.

I learned how to make flowers from napkins when I came up with a panel on a hoop with pompoms. Last time I only touched on this in passing, but now I want to tell and show the whole process of their creation.

How to make a napkin flower

  1. Fold the napkin in half.
  2. And in half again. Can be cut along the fold.
  3. In the central part we fasten with a stapler.
  4. Cut out a circle from the napkin.
  5. Now each layer of the napkin, starting from the top, lift up. It is important to do this with every layer.
  6. When all layers are lifted up, carefully straighten the edges.

That's all, the work is painstaking, but quite simple.

It took a lot of flowers for the topiary, I finished a few pieces already in the process of gluing to the ball.

The ball this time was made from a newspaper.

How to make a newspaper topiary ball

The newspaper should be torn or cut into pieces of A4 format (the size of a regular standard sheet for printing).

The first piece of paper needs to be crumpled into a ball, and then the ball should be wrapped in a second newspaper sheet. Wrap the resulting ball into the next sheet and thus use several sheets to the desired size of the ball.

The paper ball must be wrapped with thread so that it does not turn around.

I glued the ends of the thread.

This time I used a twig as a trunk for the topiary. First, I wrapped it with white paper and inserted it into the ball, making a hole in it and fixing it with glue.

But then I decided to change the color anyway: I pasted the barrel with a pink napkin, and put a string of beads on top.

Among household items, I didn’t find anything suitable where I could fix the topiary from napkins.

I had to go in search of Fixprice, where I looked at a pretty candlestick.

Well, at the end of the image, she made a bow of pink satin braid with polka dots. I studied for a long time, looking at the video lesson, on the third attempt I depicted something, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to repeat it.

These are my first simple do-it-yourself topiaries. I like very much. There is a desire to do more, but my next idea is already taking a long time to implement and for now I have postponed it.

And my video:

This type of craft, like a topiary, can be made from a variety of materials. One of the most readily available "ingredients" are paper napkins. Crafts made from napkins look very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. In addition, the lightness of the main material gives the finished masterpieces a certain airiness, which is why they are wonderful decorations for an interior made in a classic style. That is why this article will be devoted to how to make topiary from paper napkins.

The simplest implementation

In this case, we will look at how to make a topiary from rose-shaped napkins. This method of creation is the simplest due to the fact that the finished craft will not have a trunk, i.e. a beginner needleworker will need to perform a minimum of manipulations. In fact, not even a tree will come out, but something like a pot of artificial flowers, but the elegance and beauty of the creation will not suffer a single gram from this. So, to get such a paper napkin topiary, you will need to acquire:

  • red and green napkins;
  • sharp scissors;
  • stapler;
  • glue gun;
  • a flower pot, the diameter of which is approximately equal to the diameter of the ball;
  • beads;
  • thin cloth (the use of this ingredient is optional; it is only needed for safety net if the diameter of the existing pot will greatly exceed the diameter of the ball).

Despite all the simplicity, you may not understand something about how this topiary is made from napkins; the video below will allow you to watch the ongoing manipulations in dynamics. This will save you from making serious mistakes. So the whole workflow looks like this:

  • first take a foam ball and try it on the pot (it should fit tightly inside a little less than half); if the diameter of the pot is too wide, do the following: take the prepared fabric and glue it on the inner surface of the pot (if necessary, glue the fabric in several layers); fix the foam blank in the pot and set aside the resulting structure for now;
  • after that, take on the flowers; take one red napkin and fold it 3-4 times;
  • pierce the center of the napkin with a stapler (so your layers are securely fastened);
  • cut a circle with a diameter of 4 cm; according to a similar principle, make a large number of such blanks;
  • then begin to lift each layer to the middle of the circle (in the end, you should have a flower);
  • now take on the leaves (it's still easier here); cut a few strips of green napkins (each about 1-2 cm wide);
  • twist these strips with an accordion and straighten;
  • then take one paper rose and put a little glue on its bottom; glue the rose to the surface of the foam ball, which is already fixed in the pot;
  • glue a green strip around the rose (it will imitate leaves);
  • glue the entire remaining ball in the same way;

By the way! You can complete the decoration of the craft with beads (they are selectively glued to the flowers, one for each).

Having completed the last manipulation, you will finish making the simplest topiary from napkins with your own hands. You can keep your craft for yourself as a decoration or present it to someone for a holiday. The considered do-it-yourself topiary from napkins for beginners is a rather beautiful version of the execution on which you can get your first experience. However, in the future it is recommended to switch to more complex creations. We will talk about one of these creations below. Step by step video instruction:

Instructions for creating a tree with a trunk

Now we will learn how to make do-it-yourself topiary from napkins according to a more complex principle. For work you will need:

  • newspaper sheets;
  • threads;
  • paper napkins in two colors;
  • stapler;
  • glue gun;
  • wooden stick about 40 cm long;
  • satin ribbons;
  • plastic pot;
  • a piece of sandpaper;
  • any alcohol-containing liquid;
  • cotton pad;
  • a clean sponge used in washing dishes;
  • white acrylic paint;
  • gypsum;
  • water;
  • pins.

Now let's move on to how to make a topiary from napkins. For greater simplicity and clarity, the entire manufacturing process will be disassembled step by step. Also, you need to take into account the fact that you can make a mistake when creating a topiary from napkins; The photos below each step will allow you to compare the correct version with yours, making it even easier to work with. So, the sequence of actions is as follows:

  • to get started, take newspaper sheets and crumple them into a ball (you should get a circle with a diameter of about 8 cm; centimeter discrepancies up or down are allowed);
  • after that, wrap the resulting ball with threads (this way you will give it a more correct shape, as well as securely fix it);
  • now move on to creating flowers for future crafts; in principle, the algorithm of work will be the same as in the case of the previous topiary without a trunk; take a napkin of the same color, fold it 4 times, and cut out a circle of the largest diameter;
  • then, using a stapler, fasten all the circles together (all components are fastened in the center of the circle);
  • according to a similar principle, make blanks from napkins of a different color;
  • after that, start shaping the blanks into a flower shape; first take the top layer and squeeze it towards the center to get something that looks like petals; then compress the second layer and so on; do this operation with all blanks;
  • then take each flower, spread it with glue (from below) and apply it to the newspaper base;
  • cover with flowers almost the entire newspaper circumference except for the lower part (the trunk of the future tree will be attached to it);
  • after that, take the prepared wooden stick and tie a satin ribbon at one end;
  • wrap the entire stick with this tape; at the end, fix the satin finish with a glue gun;
  • after that, take on the design of the pot; to begin with, treat its surface with sandpaper (this is necessary so that the paint can adhere to the sides of the pot); as an additional treatment, it is recommended to wipe the surface with an alcohol-containing liquid;
  • then take white acrylic paint, dip a dish sponge into it and start painting the sides of the pot;
  • after that, cut several strips from napkins of one of the selected colors;
  • cover these strips with glue (on the inside) and wrap them around the entire pot;
  • dilute a solution of water and gypsum in a separate bowl; pour this solution into the prepared and already decorated pot;
  • while the solution acquires a moderate viscosity, insert a wooden stick wrapped in satin into a crown with flowers; give the structure additional reliability with a glue gun;
  • when the solution becomes viscous, insert a trunk with a crown into it; support the craft with improvised items so that it stands vertically;
  • when the "foundation" hardens, decorate the surface with satin ribbons;

Advice! If desired, tie a satin bow at the base of the crown: this will make everything look more attractive.

So you have created a beautiful topiary from napkins; master class is over. In this lesson, the exact color of the napkins used was not indicated, but this is no coincidence. The choice of colors is completely up to you, although it is recommended to give preference to orange and burgundy napkins (this way you will get the most optimal color composition).

What you need for work:

  • Styrofoam ball, if not, then use thread and newspapers;
  • Napkins or corrugated paper;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue;
  • stapler;
  • Flower pot;
  • Branch.

Building the Foundation

How to make a topiary? You need to start from the ball. It can be purchased at a needlework store for about fifty rubles, depending on the size. It is not difficult to create a base with your own hands. You only need unnecessary newspapers and threads.
1. Crumple newspapers until you get a ball of the required size.
2. We wrap it with threads.
3. If the base is significantly crumpled and has become much smaller than the desired shape, add new layers to it and fasten it again with threads.
4. It is necessary to achieve the most uniform surface of the ball, this will help in further work.
5. Make a hole in the base for the branch. This can be done with scissors. Choose a place and cut there. Let the branch go tight, so it will better hold the ball.

Making Jewelry

The stage of creating decorations for the ball is the most interesting. In this case, it will be flowers and grass. Creating them is very simple, but by changing the colors, location and shape, the overall appearance of the topiary can change significantly. Use napkins for work, they are in every home, and if they remain after work, they will find application in everyday life. Corrugated paper has a huge selection of colors, but its cost is much higher. For the simplest tree, you will need napkins, scissors and a stapler.
1. Cut small squares from one napkin;
2. Staple two of them;
3. Cut out the circle;
4. Crumple layers. Do not touch the latter, it will help the flower to hold on to the base of the tree.

For a change, you can cut the edges of the circle. So, the flower will be more fluffy. You can change the shape with special scissors.

For a large topiary, it is better to use several colors of napkins.
Greenery is even easier.
1. We cut the same squares as for flowers;
2. Two of them are stapled together;
3. We begin to crumple, leaving the last layers intact.

ball decoration

Half of the work is done. Now you need glue and blanks. Any glue can be used: PVA or moment, with the latter the tree will be more durable.
Glue flowers and greens in turn, creating a composition.

At this stage, you can finish the job by gluing the ball to the pot. But you can go further.

Final part

There are several options for attaching a tree in the so-called earth:
You can pour DSP into a pot, dilute the powder with water and stir. Insert a branch with a ball there. When everything hardens, proceed to decorate the gray mass;
You can use newspapers:
1. Place a heavy stone on the bottom to stabilize the tree;
2. Insert a branch and, holding it, cover it with newspapers;
3. You can’t leave it like that, so cover the “ground” with green napkins;
4. And for greater relief and realism, glue the grass;
5. Pay special attention to the edges, the newspaper should not stick out.
Instead of napkins, you can use stones, sand, cereals or other improvised material.

Finished work decoration

How to decorate a topiary? The pot can be decorated using the technique, tied with a ribbon, glued with beads or painted with paints. Small animals-souvenirs can settle in the grass. A ladybug can crawl along a branch. Butterflies, sparkles or flowers from other materials will be added to the ball.
Topiary - decorations for any interior. The right combination of colors and shapes will create a unique atmosphere of coziness and comfort. Such a craft is done for a short time and does not require special knowledge. Even a child will cope. Show your imagination and surprise your guests with designer topiary in your home!
