History of Motorist's Day

The holiday of motorists was fixed in the Soviet Union in 1976 as "the day of road transport workers." Of course, initially only drivers of passenger buses, trolleybuses and metros fell into this category. However, at the beginning of the new millennium, the President of Russia renamed the holiday into "Workers' Day". road infrastructure which is celebrated on the last Sunday in October.

Where is Motorist Day celebrated?

Since the day of the motorist was first fixed in the USSR, it is still celebrated in the CIS countries, namely in Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan. The date of the holiday is the same as in Russia - October 29, 2017. Although there is no similar "motorist's day" in the west, the United States celebrates School Bus and Truck Driver's Day every year.

Who celebrates Motorist Day

As we have already noted, the original Motorist Day concerned only workers public transport. However, with the spread of private transport in the Russian Federation, Motorist Day has become common for everyone, one way or another connected with this area: repair workers, drivers, engineers, and just motorists. At the moment, 42% of the Russian population can rightfully consider Motorist Day their holiday: according to statistics, in 2017, there were 288 cars per 1,000 inhabitants in Russia.

How to celebrate Motorist's Day

Car enthusiasts can show their resourcefulness and bring their auto fantasies to life. So, in Ukraine, the Day of the Motorist is traditionally celebrated with a parade of retro cars. In Russia and Kazakhstan, they prefer to hold off-road races on domestic cars. The most creative motorists organize parades of customized cars - with giant rims, acid colors, deafening stereos. On this date, motorists expect a more loyal attitude of traffic police officers towards themselves, which can sometimes provoke different kind abuse on both sides. The business closest to motorists does not stand aside either: on the day of the motorist, many gas stations lower fuel prices and distribute discount coupons.

The number of cars in the world is growing steadily - according to the most conservative estimates, there are more than a billion cars in the world. The automotive industry has been growing rapidly since the end of the last century, reaching record levels even in the least developed countries, in particular by attracting investment and using cheap labor.

The uncontrolled spread of the auto industry is associated with catastrophic environmental changes, and in this mass hysteria it becomes difficult to adequately assess the contribution that the first cars made to the development of civilization. When, in 1908, Henry Ford demonstrated the first automobile in history, the Ford Model T or "Tin Lizzie", many related fields received a huge boost to development. The genius and incredible relevance of this invention was not questioned, and many developed powers began to design their own cars. And so, at the end of the first half of the 20th century, the first Soviet car NAMI-1 "Primus" appeared. And after only a few decades, the day of the motorist was registered in the USSR.

This day off became the legal date for Driver's Day, as it was popularly called. Since then, this date has never changed, despite the fact that the very legislative acts that regulate this holiday have been rewritten more than once. We are currently celebrating Driver's Day by decree of 2012.

For a short time, from 1996 to 2000, this holiday was called the Day of Road Transport and Road Workers.

So this holiday at the end of October brought together for a short time those who design, build and repair roads with those who use these roads in accordance with the duty of their profession - professional drivers. However, it was very quickly singled out as a separate holiday, and it was moved to an earlier date - it dates from the third Sunday of the same month, October. Thus, between these two holidays there can be from one to two weeks, depending on how the October calendar looks like in a given year.

Motorist's Day is primarily a holiday for professional drivers: from taxi drivers to truckers, from personal drivers of company directors to those who drive huge mining trucks.

For all of them, driving is a profession, and many representatives of this profession have completely different requirements than ordinary motorists. Often, a professional driver is required to periodically undergo retraining, which allows him to always be aware of all changes in traffic rules and other laws that relate to traffic, drivers are reminded of the subtleties of safe driving, etc.

Of course, ordinary motorists can also consider this holiday as their own, since both professionals and amateurs use the same roads, are guided by the same traffic rules. And, in the end, mutual understanding and mutual assistance is what the relationship between road users should be based on.

Day of the motorist - for real folk holiday. It has become so, among other things, thanks to the rampant motorization of the last two decades. Nevertheless, we especially congratulate the professionals for whom the driver's seat is the workplace, and the steering wheel, pedals and levers of the car are the objects of labor.

The road is a kind of symbol of endless movement. Because it is the roads that can connect us with our loved ones, show the world and let us enjoy the feeling of complete freedom. But if you look into the very depths of the history of the emergence of road transport and Motorist Day, you can find out that over the years, the car has gradually merged into a person’s life:

• In 1885, the first test of a home-made car passed;
• In 1894, the first automobile competitions were held;
• And already in 1903, the first automobile company was founded, known throughout the world and now Ford Motor.

At present, no one, even with a small degree of certainty, is taken to calculate the scale of the automotive industry in terms of the number of produced ones. Although, according to some researchers, there is an average of one car per inhabitant of the planet in his life.

The creation of such a holiday as Motorist's Day is a kind of expression of people's respect and recognition. Why is that? Because the driver is often responsible for life a large number people, and not just for the delivery of various goods.

The history of the Day of the Motorist is rooted in the distant October 1, 1980. When the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted a decree called "On festive and anniversaries”, according to which the Day of the Soviet motorist was celebrated on the last Sunday of October. In Ukraine, they decided to make this holiday common for both drivers and road builders. And in 1993, Leonid Kravchuk signed a decree on the establishment of such a holiday as the Day of the motorist and road builder.

Traditions of the Day of the motorist

Thanks to rapid development automotive industry, the demand for professions related to the car is significantly increasing. The driver is one of the most widespread and mass professions. Accordingly, this holiday can not be called an unpopular holiday.

And yet, the Day of the motorist and road builder is a holiday that is dedicated not only to motorists and drivers, it is also a holiday for all workers and workers who have dedicated their lives to the road and vehicles.

If we talk about the traditions of the celebration that this day has for the road builder of Ukraine. First of all, it should be said that various organizations, clubs and movements of motorists, as well as various organizations whose professional activities are at least somehow connected with the car, celebrate it most actively. As part of the motorist's day, concerts are organized, the issuance of bonuses and incentives, etc. is timed. And, of course, which driver on Motorist's Day does not deny himself the pleasure of drinking a glass for the health of his work colleagues.

Moreover, according to various estimates, the object may approach our planet not at all on the 9th, but on a different date in September 2019.

As for whether 2006 QV89 will hit Earth on September 9, 2019 or not - the chance of a collision is extremely low.

Thus, the Sentry System (developed by the JPL Center for NEO Studies) shows that the probability of a body colliding with the Earth is 1:9100 (those. about one ten thousandth of a percent).

The European Space Agency (ESA) estimates the chance of an asteroid orbit crossing our planet as 1 to 7300 (0,00014 % ). The ESA ranked 2006 QV89 as the 4th celestial body of potential danger to Earth. According to the agency, the exact time of the "flight" of the body on September 9, 2019 is 10:03 Moscow time.

Preceding Easter 2020 is Lent, which begins 48 days before happy holiday. And after 50 days celebrate the Trinity.

Popular pre-Christian customs that have survived to this day include dyeing eggs, making Easter cakes and curd cakes.
