Make a beautiful portrait in Photoshop. How to create a colorful portrait effect in Photoshop

Step 1. The first step, of course, is to find your original photo. I can look at pictures of Angelina Jolie all day long, so I will use her picture. Is always. This is my obsession.

Step 2. I created a layer with black thin paths using the tool PolygonalLasso(Polygonal lasso)(note. After you make a selection with this tool, press the right mouse button, select Stroke(Stroke) and define the outline). I painted the areas within the contour lines with primary colors, a separate layer was created for each color.

Step 3. Some more color details have been added here. Again, each color is on a separate layer.

Step 4. A bit of vector coloring. Highlights and dark areas are painted by highlighting them with the tool PolygonalLasso(Polygonal lasso) and painting in various shades.

Step 5. The areas are mixed with each other with a tool Blur(Blur) and some brushes set in mode Screen(Lightening) and Multiply(Multiplication) with different levels opacity(opacity). Only different shades of the same color were used.

Step 6. Pay more attention to the individual vector lines to achieve more uniformity. As you paint, pay attention to what you are drawing within the selection, i.e. you don't have to paint over the outline.

Step 7. Added details on the lips, again with the tool PolygonalLasso(Polygonal lasso). I went back to the original photo several times to get the lights and shadows in place.

Step 8. Individual lines on the lips were blurred, and some depth was created with a brush in screen(clarification) and multiply(multiplication). The upper and lower lips were painted over separately, by means of preliminary selection of each.

Step 9. Adding additional color to eyebrows and eyes with a tool Brush(Brush) in mode Screen(clarification) and Multiply(multiplication) from bright blue to black, gives them some depth, and I also walked over the eye in bright pink.

Step 10. Finer details have been added to the eye area with little smudging"Lubrication" eyelashes, as well as a slight reflection was added from them. The brows are lightened by blending with a nearby color.

Step 11. The eyebrows were finished with a thin brush of various colors, slightly mixed with each other (approx. smudge(smearing)). I duplicated the eyebrow layer and applied to the top layer blendingoption(mixing modes) so that both eyebrow layers are visible. This makes the eyebrows look thicker. The very first layer with black outlines was painted over to blend the outlines with the surrounding areas, but not completely.

Finally, the hair was created using lines of various shades of brown and blonde, then blended together using the tool blur(blur) and hard brush tool smudge(smearing).

Since the various details of Angelina's portrait are on separate layers, colors and levels can be applied to them independently. Play with them until you achieve a natural shade. Finish off by merging the layers and blurring the highlights slightly.

Ready. Of course, you can spend more time on this if you want to refine the details, relying on the original photo and your own discretion. I hope this tutorial was helpful to you.

Good day, friends. Today we are going to create a beautiful portrait in Photoshop... We will turn an ordinary photo into an art picture that will become a worthy decoration of any desktop.

You can look at the result:

Now let's get started!

1. Find a suitable photo. It is desirable that this be a close-up portrait. For example, I chose this photo:

2. Create a document of the desired size (I chose 800x950px), insert a paper texture into it (you can search for it in or take it):

3. Now insert the found photo:

4. Create a layer mask, take a soft black brush and erase the background:

If you don't know how to work with layer masks, lesson "" will teach you :)

5. Erase the body part as well in order to get a smooth transition effect:

6. Now create a Black & White adjustment layer:

And we adjust it in such a way that the portrait is quite contrasting:

After that, the portrait should look something like this:

Please note that there should be a lot of light on the face.

7. Create a Levels adjustment layer and add more contrast:

So now we're getting a pretty nice black and white portrait, but that's not enough for us, so let's move on.

Background for a beautiful portrait

8. In this step we will be working with the background. For this we need any splatter brushes (you can find them). Create a layer above the paper texture and spray:

9. Select the top 2 layers, right-click on them and select Create Clipping Mask:

Now add another splash of different colors:

On this we will finish working with the background and move on to the fun part.

Hair lines

10. Take the Pen Tool (Pen) and start drawing lines along the hair. If you do not know how to work with the Pen Tool, the lesson ““ will help you. But before that, let's set up the brush. Switch to the standard set of brushes:

And grab a 4px hard brush, then hit F5. The brush properties settings menu will open. Set these parameters:

Set the brush color to white and create a new layer.

11. Now we are working with the Pen Tool. Create a line along the hair. Then right-click on it and select Stroke Path:

Don't forget to check the "Simulate Pressure" checkbox:

The result is a stylish line like this:

12. Create as many lines as you think are sufficient. You can also change the brush size occasionally:

13. Make the same lines for the outlines of the chin and lips:

Fine. Now let's work with color.

Bringing a beautiful portrait to life with color

14. Create a Gradient Map adjustment layer. Then set the blending mode to Screen and give the gradient the colors you like:

Change the Opacity to 40%.

15. Create a Color Balance adjustment layer as Clipping Mask (right mouse button -> Create Clipping Mask) and adjust the shades to your liking. I used parameters like this:

Now a beautiful portrait looks like this:

16. Another adjustment layer, this time a Photo Filter with color # 29456c and size 46%. Blending Mode Soft Light, Opacity 24%:

This completes the work with color for now. Now let's add some fantasy to the portrait.

Cosmic hair

17. Download. Place one of them on the canvas, rasterize it and place it above the Color Balance layer. Then set as Clipping Mask:

18. Set the blending mode to Lighten, you get something like this:

Use a layer mask and a soft black brush to remove the space image from the face. Also remove those parts of the image where space does not look very nice:

Reduce the Opacity to 60%. Now copy this layer and position the space image so that it covers the rest of the hair:

19. Using the second image and the same technique, diversify the hair texture. Opacity 70%, Blend Mode is still Lighten:

20. Use Hue / Saturation (Called by hotkey Ctrl + U) in order to increase the saturation of the space, if required:

21. And a little more work with hair:

Fine! Now let's get down to finalizing the details.

Final work on a beautiful portrait in Photoshop

22. Find or. Now create a new layer and apply floral patterns to the girl's face:

Use a layer mask to hide the extra parts of the patterns:

23. Continue to apply patterns:

Blending Mode - Soft Light:

24. Now take a soft brush of any color you want (use dark shades to avoid overexposure). Create a new layer, set the blending mode to Color Dodge and put some color spots on the hair. This will create a glowing effect for the portrait:

25. Create a Gradient Map adjustment layer and select this gradient from the standard set:

Blending Mode Hard Light, Opacity 5%:

26. Another adjustment layer with a gradient, but this time with a standard black and white transition. Blending Mode Hard Light, Opacity 10%:

Well, well, perhaps that's all. We got a beautiful portrait in Photoshop. Here it is:

Hope this Photoshop lesson Did you like. I draw your attention to the fact that all the work was carried out using adjustment layers. This means that even now you can return to any stage of the lesson and change anything. On this I say goodbye and wish you success in mastering Photoshop 😉

Portrait is probably one of the most popular genres in photography. Anyone who starts to get involved in photography takes portraits.

But with the processing of these portraits it turns out worse. The percentage of well-processed portraits is very small, which cannot but be frustrating, given the number of photographers per capita in modern Russia.

This post will explain in Photoshop. More precisely, I will tell you my way of processing

How to start processing portrait photography

The first thing to start with processing portrait photography is analyzing the photo and developing a work plan. As a rule, when opening an image, the processor immediately looks at the face, eyes, skin imperfections and thereby pays little attention to the overall picture.

Begin your analysis by examining photography as a whole. To accustom yourself to this, reduce the photo with a zoom so that the details are not readable and do not distract you.

What you need to pay attention to when studying the photo (the order does not matter):

    • Is the image balanced in tonality and colors?
    • How do the contours of the figure and clothing look?
    • Are the proportions of the body preserved and is there deformation?
    • Have you got the right lighting and exposure?
    • Is the image in focus correctly?
    • Are there any defects in the background?

After that, you can conduct a detailed inspection of the photo and identify the following questions for yourself:

    • Do I need to remove dust from the photo?
    • What skin and body imperfections need to be removed?
    • Do I need makeup treatment?
    • Do I need to correct the shape of the body.
    • Do I need to correct lips and other facial features?

In principle, everyone should develop their own algorithm of work, I am currently adhering to the above.

Advice: Flip through magazines, study classics, and not only photos, but fine arts in general. This will contribute to your overall development as a photographer and retoucher.

Treatment

We opened the photo after converting from RAW.

Let's analyze it and decide how we want to handle it.

By detail:

    • The face is clean, there are almost no defects. It is necessary to remove moles and slightly smooth the skin while maintaining the texture. Remove wrinkles above the left eye.
    • The eyes are very red. Remove redness and remove wreaths.
    • Facial features do not need to be edited.
    • Slightly reshape the hair above the head.
    • Saturate the color of your lipstick

Step-by-step processing of portrait photography

Any processing begins with the fact that I duplicate the main layer and hide it. This gives me the ability to undo any change, even if it is no longer available in the History panel, this time. I can always hide the changes, look at the original and see if I did anything worse than it was, these are two.

note it is very important to make a new layer after each processing step. And leave the previous one as insurance. For example, if you blur the skin and start working on, then with any error you will not be able to return to the original, because the original contains an image with unprocessed skin.

Thus, you always have 2 layers of the original photo and the last processing option to which you can roll back. If you think this is superfluous, then you can delete the original and just have the last option in which you are sure.

First step we remove all skin defects, moles and wrinkles. This is done with the Healing Brush tool, and the Clone Stamp (but there should be a brush with an opacity of 20-30%) and forward.

Advice: When you read the lessons, watch the video or sit on the master class, do not get tired of the numbers that are used in the settings. Try to understand what values are for what and experiment on your images.

It remains to process the eyes. To do this, take a Clone Stamp with an opaque brush, increase the image to 300% and carefully remove the wreaths. The eyes remain a bit dark, but we'll fix that in the next steps.

Next, I want to fix the hair, reshape and remove the strand that stands out. This is best done with the Liquify tool, it's in the Filter for me. In order not to load the entire photo into Liquify, we need to select the area that we need to process.

Leather processing

Now we are ready to make the model's skin look more glamorous and even. To do this, you need to do the following:

    • A copy of the layer, this will be our main layer, which will not be touched.

    • Duplicate the blurred layer, we get two blurred layers on top of the normal one.
    • The first layer is set to Blending Mode Darken, Opacity 50%, the second Lighten and Opacity about 60. The higher the opacity of the Lighten layer, the more the skin will glow as a result.

    • Now we need to add noise, which will be analogous to the skin texture. Create a new layer through the menu Layer -> New -> Layer .. select the Overlay blending mode and check the box below to fill the layer with 50% gray. We get a new layer that does not affect the picture.

But you can make it even more interesting. For example add volume using Photoshop. As you can imagine, the volume is just a light-shadow. To give the photo extra volume, you can create a new layer and work on it with the Dodge and Burn tools.

Draw volume and work with light and shadow.

Working with Dodge and Burn is not convenient because you paint both highlights and shadows on the same layer. To separate the light and shadow into layers, do the following.

Duplicate the main layer two times. Assign a black mask to each layer. One layer with Multiply blending mode, the second one with Screen blending mode.

Without going into details, Multiply darkens the entire image and Screen lightens. By painting with a semi-transparent brush on the Screen layer, we lighten the necessary areas, and darken with Multiply. You can do this not only to create volume, but also for any correction of highlights and shadows.

To increase the volume, we will lighten the highlights and darken the dark. In our case, we will lighten the prominent areas of the face, the forehead and cheekbones, and darken the lips and cheeks. I painted some more through the hair to lighten the roots and darken the highlights.

It is difficult to notice the changes in such a photo, but believe me, they are also very significant.

It remains only to add sharpness and contrast. There are a lot of ways, in in this case i use high pass filter

    • As a result, we get such a card

And the final touch is to duplicate the layer, blend mode Overlay, black mask and paint over the hair to give it a little golden color.

Let's see what ended up in layers.

Side-by-side comparison, you can click for a higher resolution.

And the result

Video "Editing Portrait Photography in Photoshop"

If you want to consolidate the material, I highly recommend watching the following video tutorials made specifically for this article. They explain everything in the most detailed way. You can select a high resolution and enlarge the video to full screen to see all the details of the work.

Outcome

This portrait photography processing in Photoshop takes about 20-30 minutes. Depending on customer requirements, automation using actions and other nuances.

Naturally, all of the above can be done in a variety of ways and I do not pretend that the option I proposed is the best.

With the help of Photoshop, you can easily hide the facts of weight loss. The main thing is to do more and the skill will come to you over time! Feel free to experiment with different photos.

In this tutorial, we will look at several techniques for creating a dramatic portrait in the program. Adobe photoshop... The tool will be actively used here Mixer Brush(Mixing brush) as well as retouching technique Dodge and Burn(Dodge and Burn) to accentuate the main details for a dramatic effect.

For execution this lesson you need version Adobe PhotoshopCC, since it was in it that significant updates took place. We will be using an adjustment layer Color Lookup(Search for color), retouch the model's skin, and also try out a new filter Camera Raw, which has become available since version CC... But one way or another, if you have a different version of the program installed, you will get a similar result.

The translation is based on the lesson posted on the YouTube video portal, so we will do everything to make it clear and easy for you to follow.

Step 1

First, you need to separate the model from the background. For this, the author used the tool Pen(Feather) (P), for more precise selection. After the model is completely selected, press the right mouse button and select Make Selection(Form selection). Radius (Feather) put shading - 1 px... Then apply a layer mask to the selected model. If there are still some errors, you can remove them with a black brush on the layer mask.

To make the edges of the model look more neat, you can use the function Refine Edge(Refine Edge) with settings as in the screenshot.

Also, the author advises to pay attention to the remaining outline around the model. It can be darkened with Layer Style(Layer style) Inner Shadow(Inner Shadow) with the settings shown in the screenshot.

Name the model layer « Model».

Step 2

Now let's open the background image (Ctrl + O) , or just transfer the picture to the program. Blur the background with a filter Gaussian Blur(Gaussian blur). Blur the background so that no details are visible. The author used a filter with a radius 106 .

Step 3

Let's start removing defects on the face. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N). Name it fix. Let's apply it as Clipping Mask(Clipping Mask) to the model layer « Model» ... Also, you must check the box next to Sample all Layers(Sample from all layers).

Now, with the tool Healing Brush Tool(Spot Healing Brush), remove some blemishes on the face.

Next, let's create a new layer. (Ctrl + Shift + N) and let's call it soft... Apply it as a Clipping Mask to the layer. fix... With the help of a tool Mixer Brush(Mixing Brush) with the settings shown in the screenshot, smooth out the model's skin. Also, don't forget to check the box next to Sample all Layers(Sample from all layers).

The result you should get:

Step 4

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N). Let's call it R... Let's use the tool again Pen(Feather) (P). In the settings, on the options panel at the top, instead of Path, put Shape. This will automatically fill the new path with fill. Create an outline around the right (away from us) lens on the glasses. For ease of selection, it is recommended to slightly reduce Fill(Fill), of this layer, up to 64% .

Now let's start selecting the second lens. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and call it L. Also select the outline of the lens and slightly reduce the Opacity(Opacity) of this layer, up to 64% . (Translator's note) For a closer acquaintance with the instrument Pen(Feather) (P) you can study this article https: //site/articles/tools_a/kak-rabotat-s-perom.html

Once everything is ready, go to the layer R and apply for it Layer Style(Layer style) Gradient Overlay(Gradient overlay) (or by double-clicking on the layer with the left mouse button) with the settings as in the screenshot.

Use a gradient from #2 f2368 To # ffffff. The result that should be:

Now let's just transfer Layer Style(Layer Style) (while holding down Alt) from the layer R per layer L.

This is how the model's glasses should turn out:

Create a group and move both layers there. Name the group « Glasses».

Now let's create an adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation(Hue / Saturation) and apply it as Clipping Mask(Clipping Mask) to the lens group.

Move the slider Hue(Hue) to value -37 .

Step 5

Now we need to create a small shadow from the glasses. To do this, you need to create a new layer under the group. « Glasses» ... Name it « Glass Shadow» .

Next, with the key held down Ctrl, click on layer L... This will create a circular selection around the lens. Go to Select(Emphasis) - Modify(Mod) - Expand(Expand). Set the expansion radius 5 px... The selection will become wider. Next, go Select(Emphasis) - Inverse(Invert) (or right click on the selection and Select Inverse) (Alt + Ctrl + I). Now, with the tool Brush(Brush) (B) with Feather(Opacity) and Flow(Push) by 50% and low stiffness , Leave a small shadow around the outline of the frame, leaving a shadow behind the glasses.

Then, do the same for the right frame.

If you have any extra shadow marks, just remove them with the help of the tool Eraser(Eraser) (E).

If the shadow seems unrealistic to you, i.e. too dark, you can apply the filter Gaussian Blur(Gaussian blur).

Translator's note: to select the shadow, you can use any selection tool. The author used Rectangular Marquee Tool(rectangular selection) (M)).

Leave the blur radius in the area 3 px... Drag the final variation to the group « Glasses» .

So, the result of the actions performed:

Step 6

Gradient Fill(Gradient fill) on top of all layers. Make the gradient from white to transparent.

Note. author: The pink light hitting the model on the left is shown in a way that makes it easier to see. Also, for this layer the blending mode was used.Soft Light(Soft light). DowngradeOpacity (Opacity) this layer until you are satisfied with the result.

Subtract Opacity(Opacity) of this layer to 30% and change the blending mode to Soft Light(Soft light).

Step 7

Create a new adjustment layer Color Lookup(Search for color). In subsection 3D Lut File choose Edgy Amber 3 DL. Reduce Opacity(Opacity) of this layer up to 15%.

Step 8

Create a new adjustment layer Curves(Curves). Switch to the blue channel in this layer and tighten the bottom point to tint the image in the shadows and highlights, thereby adding a split toning effect, as in the screenshot.

And the top point.

The result you should get

Step 9

Create an adjustment layer again. Gradient Fill(Gradient fill) with color from f6dfb2 to transparent with settings like in the screenshot.

Now move the gradient to the upper left corner like in the screenshot:

Also, there is another alternative way.

In this blog, you will learn a little about editing a portrait in Photoshop using one of the children's photographs as an example.

There is a photograph of a baby lying in a crib. The image shows the initial frame and how it will end. As you can imagine, the key to a good photo is an initially good photo. Then, using Photoshop or Lightroom, you can simply enhance its perception, highlight accents, and make it “delicious”.

You can talk for a long time about how to tint a photo, everyone does it in their own way and in different ways.
Moreover, even the same tinting can be done different ways... How to handle hair, eyes and other details is a topic that deserves a separate article. It is also good to know how to correctly apply texture or correctly process the skin. This is all the knowledge that makes it possible to improve a good photo.

Open the photo in Camera RAW. Lighten the shadows to +70 and raise the exposure a little. In the Detail tab, turn off the sharpness adjustment so that the sharpness does not focus twice and spoil the picture. I do it myself at the end in those areas where it is necessary. I use russified Photoshop, therefore the description is appropriate.

Open the file in Photoshop and first of all remove unnecessary elements in the frame in the corners. Select what needs to be removed using the Lasso tool, then go:
Edit> Fill> Content-Aware.
The program changes this fragment and even draws the direction of the stripes on the fabric.

The next step is darkening the corners and vignetting. I do the shading zone myself to control the areas where I need it. This can be useful if, for example, we have a bright sky and light falls from some side, and we do not need to darken this corner so as not to obstruct the light. I use the Straight Lasso tool and give it a feather edge 200-300, depending on the size of the photo. Next, based on the selection, create a new Curves adjustment layer and darken it as much as I need it (the mask in this curve needs to be inverted with Ctrl + I so that it darkens the required area).
