Kinetosis - motion sickness in transport: causes, symptoms, treatment. Motion sickness pills and bracelet

In this article:

Rocking a child in transport is a fairly common problem. Every second baby at least once in his life has encountered unpleasant symptoms of kinetosis. This is what doctors call seasickness.

The abundance of negative emotions and the extremely unpleasant sensations that motion sickness causes can give odds to many other diseases. Therefore, not only children, but also many parents with nervousness prepare for any long-distance routes, trying to choose the shortest and most sparing of them so that the child does not experience suffering. Why are children so often seasick in transport, how to prevent the development of symptoms of kinetosis and how can you help a child if he is still seasick?

Why does the child get seasick in transport?

The main reason for motion sickness of children in transport is a weak vestibular apparatus. It is an organ that is responsible for the balance and orientation of a person in the surrounding space. The vestibular apparatus responds with an immediate reaction to any changes in the position of the body and head, this reaction is most clearly manifested during a trip on any type of transport.

In young children (up to about 18 months), the vestibular apparatus is in a dormant state, which is why they never have problems with motion sickness while traveling. After a year and a half, the organ begins its active activity, but since it is still in the stage of development and formation, its work can be called full only when the child turns 14 years old. This is why, before this age, many children cannot withstand the rocking and shaking during the trip.

The vestibular apparatus is located in the inner ear of a person, therefore, sometimes the cause of motion sickness may not be its imperfection, but a disease of the child's hearing organs. Therefore, in order to make sure of the baby's health, it will be useful to consult with an ENT doctor regarding the corresponding pathologies.

Also, the cause of a child's motion sickness in transport may be the weakness of his autonomic nervous system. Experts note that children with neurological problems are more likely than others to experience symptoms of motion sickness in transport.

Symptoms

If a child is seasick on the road, it can be seen immediately. Vomiting is not always the main symptom of motion sickness, everything is very individual. In some children, signs of motion sickness appear in the form of severe anxiety, headache and dizziness. Other babies, especially those who still speak poorly, start crying instead of complaining about their well-being. Many people have pallor of the skin and mucous membranes, beads of sweat appear on the body. Profuse salivation is often noted. Some children react to motion sickness with sleep.

If the vehicle is not stopped at this point, vomiting usually occurs. But it does not bring the child the desired relief. Sometimes children complain that their limbs become numb, less often babies simply lose consciousness.

What to do if the child is seasick?

If the child is seasick in transport, first of all, you need to provide the baby with maximum oxygen access. To do this, you need to open a window, when traveling on your own transport - make an emergency stop and take a walk in the fresh air.

You need to calm the child down, pat him on the head, hug him and explain that nothing terrible has happened. Even if he vomited in front of others, in no case scold or blame him for this. Do not take sugary soda and dairy products on the road - they exacerbate the problem, increasing the attacks of nausea and vomiting.

Offer your child mints and clean, still water. If you are not allergic to citrus fruits, you can add lemon to the water. Acidified water helps fight nausea and motion sickness. Instead of candy, you can offer the child tangerine or lime, but they should be eaten slowly, sucking each bite.

How to prepare for your trip

Before a long trip, be sure to prepare. Before leaving, the child should sleep well and be vigorous. Some parents, on the contrary, try to take tired children on the road to avoid motion sickness attacks, hoping that they will fall asleep on the way and the symptoms of seasickness will bypass them. Doing this is strongly discouraged.

The accumulated fatigue will weaken the adaptive and defense mechanisms of the body, against the background of which the vestibular apparatus will malfunction faster and brighter. The child will not only be unable to fall asleep on the road, due to the symptoms of motion sickness, he will be exhausted and more tired. It is doubtful that such a trip will bring joy to him and his parents.

If you have to travel by bus, try to get tickets for the seats in front of the cabin, facing in the direction of travel. As a rule, there is less shaking and shaking, besides, the child can become interested in the road and get distracted from his condition.

Before the trip, you should definitely eat, but not full. A hungry stomach, just like a full one, can become the basis for the rapid development of symptoms of kinetosis. The meal should be low-fat and light. Do not offer a child with seasickness before and during the trip heavy meat dishes, eggs, milk, strong broths, grapes, legumes and salads. All this causes fermentation processes in the body and increases nausea and vomiting during motion sickness.

Be sure to take with you on a trip a change of clothes for the baby, a sufficient number of plastic bags, dry and wet wipes, as well as a children's first aid kit with the necessary medicines.

Child is rocked on the plane

It is better for a child from motion sickness to find a seat in the middle of the cabin. It is there that the least vibration and rolling during the flight. Airplanes usually shake noticeably only during takeoff and climb and during landing. The rest of the time they fly above the turbulent air currents.

If a child begins to feel very anxious on the plane, then the problem may not be motion sickness at all, but pain in the ears associated with a decrease in atmospheric pressure. Young children are most susceptible to this. In any case, you need to help the child first of all by calming him down. You can offer him candy and clean water. It is recommended that vasoconstrictor drugs be instilled into the nose before the flight.

Children with diagnosed otitis media are contraindicated to fly on airplanes. Otherwise, such a child cannot avoid bouts of seasickness and severe pain.

Remedies for motion sickness

Currently, there are many anti-motion sickness remedies for children, which can be purchased at every pharmacy. If the child is severely motion sick during the trip, despite all the efforts of the parents, it makes sense to consult a doctor and find medicines for motion sickness for children.

Let's consider the most popular ones.

Dramina

This is a remedy for motion sickness for children 2 years of age and older, which has a direct effect on the vestibular apparatus. Thanks to him, you can avoid all the delights of seasickness - nausea, vomiting and dizziness. Despite the fact that the drug is effective, it has some side effects in the form of headaches, drowsiness, decreased concentration, etc.

Kokkulin

These are homeopathic motion sickness pills for children. The drug is good because it has no side effects, does not provoke drowsiness. The tablets do not need to be washed down with water, which is very convenient during the trip. But like any homeopathic remedy, it is not recommended to prescribe it to a child on their own. It should be recommended by a homeopathic physician after examining the baby.

Air-sea

A popular domestic drug for motion sickness for children, which copes well with the symptoms of motion sickness and has no side effects. The only contraindication for its appointment is children under 3 years of age.

Bonin

A potent remedy for children with motion sickness in a car and any other form of transport, which has many contraindications. For example, it can only be used when the child reaches 12 years of age.

In addition to pills, there is another effective remedy - an acupuncture bracelet for seasickness, which effectively suppresses attacks of nausea and dizziness. It can be used not only for children, but also for pregnant women against a background of severe toxicosis, since it is a non-drug agent that does not have side effects.

How to train the vestibular apparatus?

If an active lifestyle is practiced in a family, parents are accustomed to traveling and often drive a car, the child's vestibular apparatus should be trained in advance. In this case, the likelihood of developing seasickness will be reduced or its consequences will be less pronounced.

Most young parents regularly take their children with them from birth on trips by car to the store, to the clinic or to visit. In this case, the vestibular apparatus of the baby begins to adapt to movement from the first months of life. Of course, such trips should be carried out with the help of a special child car seat and over short distances.

But not all parents can afford a car or regular trips on it, so you can train your child's vestibular apparatus at home. The main thing in these trainings is consistency.

Exercises aimed at improving the vestibular apparatus may include carrying and swinging the baby in his arms, rotating the baby in the air, turning over and whirling (it is better to carry out all these gymnastic tricks with the help of the dad). You can also use a gymnastic ball, spread the crumbs with your stomach on it and swing it in different directions.

Children over 2 years old can be taught to roll on the floor "sausage", rolling from side to side. Walking on a curb or a gymnastic beam, all kinds of swings and roundabouts, jumping on an air mattress and swimming are also useful. Older children can exercise the vestibular apparatus through dancing and cycling.

In order not to expose your child to additional risks on the road, feed him on the trip with food that was taken from home or that food, the quality of which there is no doubt about it. Unfamiliar places of public catering can spoil the impression of the trip, regardless of the state of the vestibular apparatus.

It is best to consult a pediatrician before a long trip. If necessary, he will recommend motion sickness medications suitable for children.

Useful video about rocking a child in transport

On vacation and other pleasant business. Or important. But then it turns out that your child does not tolerate such trips - he is sick. What to do, refuse to travel by means of transport? But this is impossible in the modern world. Let's figure out why troubles can happen along the way, and what to do if the child is seasick.

The condition that occurs when using various types of transport and is accompanied by drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, in some cases fainting and other unpleasant sensations is called seasickness. Don't be fooled by the adjective "sea" - this disease can visit a person not only on a ship, but also in a car and various types of public transport, and even on a swing. This is due to the structure of the human body. There are two common causes of motion sickness:

  • We are all familiar with such a concept as the vestibular apparatus - this is an organ of balance. Its receptors are sensitive to changes in body movement and acceleration and send information about this to the brain. Motions that are repetitive or have atypical acceleration (for example, riding on carousels) have a particularly strong effect on the receptors of the vestibular apparatus. Thus, according to the theory of the scientist Vladimir Ignatievich Voyachek, motion sickness occurs. In some people, the vestibular apparatus is sensitive to irritating factors, while others are not, so they do not have seasickness.
  • If a person does not see what is really happening (for example, when traveling in a ship's cabin), and signals about a change in movement from the receptors of the vestibular apparatus are sent to his central nervous system, he can also be seasick.

This is such a rather difficult answer to the question of why the child is seasick. From it we can conclude that it is very important to regularly train the baby's vestibular apparatus.

By the way, more than 50% of children under 12 years of age are sick. After this age, some become resistant to this phenomenon, others continue to suffer from it, but there are much fewer cases of seasickness. It should also be noted that girls are more vulnerable to motion sickness than boys.

But, of course, this information is unlikely to reassure a mom who is worried about her child - would the fact that he is far from alone in this regard ease his condition? And yet, what to do if the child is seasick in the car? First of all, visit a doctor with the baby: the fact is that motion sickness can occur due to the presence of certain diseases. Therefore, you need to refer to

If no ailments are found, some simple tips can help you.

Remedies for motion sickness for children

First, you need to do some preparatory work before the trip: the child should be well-slept, well-fed (it is optimal to feed him 40 minutes before the expected start of the trip, but not very plentiful, light, savory and low-fat food). Also talk to your baby about where you will go, how long it will take, set him up for how fun and interesting it will be.

You need to make sure that the transport is not stuffy, but, on the other hand, that the incoming air is not filled with smells of exhaust gases. In addition, take care of its cleanliness: you probably shouldn't be reminded of the need not to smoke with a crumb, but you should also avoid using perfumery aromas. From time to time, stop the car and get out with your child: let him get some fresh air.

The child must see what is happening, so you need to seat him so that he looks in the direction of movement. Since it is best for the baby to breathe through his mouth at this time, try to occupy him with actions that involve frequent opening of the mouth (singing, talking, laughing) - at the same time, you will distract. But do not let him play games on the computer or phone, as well as read, this will just increase the likelihood of seasickness. Or, if he fell asleep, that's fine too, don't bother him. Sleep can also help prevent motion sickness.

Try to sit with your baby in the "quietest" places - that is, those where the likelihood of motion sickness is minimal. This is, for example, the middle of the ship, the front of the bus, above the wing of the plane. A special child seat must be used in the car.

Foods can also help prevent motion sickness, which include:

  • olives (be sure they are pitted)
  • lemon
  • tangerines
  • peaches
  • oranges
  • tomato sprinkled with salt
  • ginger (you can give your child ginger candy or cookies with this spice)
  • salted cucumbers
  • mint tea with lemon
  • green tea with ginger
  • salty croutons

If your child is seasick in transport, you can use essential oils (only, of course, necessarily high-quality and natural): drip a little on a napkin or handkerchief and from time to time let the fumes smell. The following essential oils help fight motion sickness:

What if your baby is already seasick? In this case, the following measures must be taken:

  • If the car window is closed, you should immediately open it, and it is better to go outside with the child so that he gets a good breath of fresh air.
  • In case of nausea, you need to put a warm dry compress on the child's stomach, and also gently massage his ears.
  • Give the child something from this list of products: a hard sour apple, lemon (you should not eat it, but suck it), moderately pickled cucumber.

To avoid additional risk factors, try to feed your child on the road with food taken from home (or food of which you are firmly convinced of the quality). Unfortunately, in unfamiliar catering establishments, you may be served food that will increase the child's discomfort.

Dear mothers. I am writing here for the first time, please do not throw your slippers. I need your help with tips. My wife is 8 months pregnant, and this is a completely different person than the one I married! I cannot understand anything, I am in a panic. Maybe here they will tell me something and calm me down that everything will return and improve after childbirth?

She yells at me all the time. For every little thing! I didn’t wipe the crumbs, I didn’t close the door to the bathtub, I bought some milk, I’m not standing in the wrong place myself. Sometimes I think she hates me. It turns out to go to a family psychologist categorically, she says that everything is in order with her, it's just that I fucked up. Mengya is terribly offended and I don't know what to do. I tried to talk this way and that, my mother-in-law also connected and also talked to her everywhere, nothing comes of it. I'm desperate. They say that this can change hormonal status.

Until recently, everything was fine, the desired child would be a boy, although the wife wanted a girl and burst into tears right on the ultrasound when they said that it was a boy. Then she calmed down and gladly chose the name and all sorts of things for the boys. But since then, I think her attitude towards me has changed a lot. What am I to blame? What's wrong?

She does not answer and says that I annoyed her with stupid questions. And I, too, can no longer live like that. I can't imagine what will happen when he is born, if everything is already so bad. The men at work said that after the birth of the child, their wives became furies, and mine is still a month before giving birth and she is already ready to kill me ..

Horizon zero

The other day, my daughter and I turned our brain around in terms of where to go to study. Deployed dramatically and suddenly. Now I think, did we do the right thing, that we submitted the documents in a completely different place from where we had previously planned? When did you choose who to be, what did you rely on? Was that your decision? Or did the parents insist? And are you satisfied now? Or did you have to change your profession? Do you blame yourself or your parents for the wrong move? A little in a panic. I can't get used to it. But everything seems to be correct.

Julia but

This is a very sad story for me, and I am really in disarray, I ask for advice on what to do.
The last two years, the mother-in-law has been changed. I lost 20 kg! I began to paint heavily, to have a fashionable haircut, to make nails, to be interested in all the novelties ... here I am writing and I myself think that I could have guessed, but no. I didn't guess.
They have been together with their father-in-law for over 30 years. I love both of them! They always help with the grandchildren, we also come to them with all our hearts.
Let's go on vacation with the mother-in-law, the father-in-law is working. And so she, on vacation, takes my husband's phone every day and calls her male colleague. Allegedly for work. At 11 pm. By video call. For 15 minutes. Every evening. She takes the phone, supposedly to call Our grandfather (father-in-law), leaves, and spoke with grandfather for a minute. And with that for about 20 minutes. And more recently I went to rest, allegedly with her girlfriends. Later it turned out that "a colleague was also in their company." And besides this colleague, she doesn't call anyone else. The question is whether there was a company at all or there was only a colleague.
All this makes me very sad. I love my father-in-law very much, he is still not quite healthy. I love my mother-in-law, but in my opinion, all this is very wrong. She told her husband gently, so and so, who is this colleague, married? The husband says, “just ask your mother yourself,” but I suspect that this topic is also very unpleasant for my husband, and he is afraid to face the truth.
We thought about starting a business with my mother-in-law, because her place of work was covered. And she wanted to involve a colleague in our business. Guess who? Yes Yes. She said so "yesterday your future business colleague called, we discussed matters" It's really disgusting (
What should I do? Talk to your mother-in-law? What format? “Who is he to you? What's your relationship like? " Eavesdrop on their conversation in the evening? (This is a dumb option, but it exists, at least it will clarify) To open a business or not? I don’t want to be connected with my mother-in-law’s lover and, in general, all this is very bad. In short, I am lost. Can you advise something smart here? She even connects my children in conversations with this colleague, they wave greetings to him and send them, brr (

Everything will be awesome

Hello girls.

I'm tired of my mom sticking her nose into my family life. I have no desire to share everything that happens with her. Every day the same questions: how with my husband, what we do, where we go. A little more and will ask the question how many times a night. Recently, I have been answering in monosyllables, I haven’t gone into details, but a mountain of clarifying questions has been pouring down on me.

When I answer that this is my personal, I don’t want to go into details, it’s none of her business, she either gets offended, or aggression begins. Like, I'm your mother, I should know everything.

And I don't want her to know. In such situations, advice begins as to how it should and how not to, she begins to goat her husband, then all the men in a row, then finally freaks out and holds on to her heart. This is followed by calls that she is feeling bad, pressure that she should drink from the drugs. As a result, I am on edge and she is on the Corvalol. Moreover, she does not give the best advice, from my point of view.

Once I followed her advice and almost got divorced. And in general, what practical advice can she give if the family life itself did not work out ...

This situation is not only in the family sphere. She tries to influence my purchases, my appearance, raising children, my communication with others, trying to get into repairs in our apartment with my husband.

I want to live my mind, learn from my mistakes.
In general, I ask for advice on how to discourage interest from my family life with my husband.
Not communicating is not an option, we live separately, but sometimes it helps with children.

The question arose about the division of the hereditary apartment.
The first one offers to sell, divide the money in half, drop 3.3 million for each and buy for the same apartment, and in a couple of years each will have a new 2-room apartment.
The second wants to wait for the renovation, to divide the new apartment in half. In this case, she will have 4.3 million. There is no need to throw anything, she will buy a one-room apartment for rent, then she has where to live.
The second sister in this situation will have to pay 4.8 million or even more to the new kopeck piece.
Legacy is certainly evil. But how to live on?
Reason, express your opinion.

Traditionally, it is believed that children outgrow the problem of motion sickness in transport. But if motion sickness persists in adolescents after the onset of puberty, this indicates a weakness of the vestibular apparatus. You can strengthen it through training.

Help me to understand. Yesterday my daughter and I were driving in the minibus, it was very stuffy and hot for 4.5 hours from 15.00 to 19.30. I practically did not sleep. At about 17.30, she began to vomit. We arrived home, vomited until 3 a.m., woke up at 7.30 and did not want to eat, only sucked at the breast, periodically felt nauseous, but there was no vomiting. Drinks some water. Capricious, sleeping for the second time in a day. Could this state be from overwork or is it something serious?

Answers Maikova Tatiana Nikolaevna:

Good afternoon, this condition is possible after motion sickness. To avoid this, you need to go to an exercise therapy doctor or a rehabilitation therapist.

Maria asks:

Hello, I'm sorry to ask about myself. I am already 19 years old, from an early age I was rocked in cars. Moreover, not on long, but even on the smallest trips within the city - 10-15 minutes. Other transport - buses, trains have always been tolerated normally. In childhood, adolescence, I had a fairly active, mobile lifestyle, but I always felt sick and it did not go away with age. Now 19, I have to drive in the car all the time, every day. And now, when it’s so hot, it’s just unbearable - nausea, headache, then I feel terrible throughout the day. Please advise on how to prevent this problem?

Answers Kachanova Victoria Gennadievna:

Hello Maria. Treatment for motion sickness includes several basic principles:
1. Refusal of food, alcoholic and strongly carbonated drinks during travel
2. Compliance with a certain position of the body during travel
3. The use of special drugs for the prevention and treatment of motion sickness
Compliance with a certain body position in the treatment of motion sickness
Travelers prone to motion sickness should try to take a place in the transport that is prone to the least acceleration. In any transport, you should avoid chairs located in the opposite direction of travel.
In all cases, one should try to reduce the contradiction between information coming from various sensitive organs: for example, in a car, it is best to sit in a seat next to the driver and watch the road over the horizon. In order to avoid severe motion sickness, you must not read while in a moving vehicle.
Food and drinks
In cases where the trip involves a short duration, it is recommended to refrain from food and drinks. In cases where it is impossible to abstain from food and water, it is better to eat only easily digestible food (for example, crackers, cookies) and drink a small amount of plain or slightly carbonated water. Alcoholic and highly carbonated drinks significantly increase the risk of motion sickness, so it is better to avoid consuming them while traveling. Smoking while traveling also increases the risk of motion sickness.
Medicines for the treatment of motion sickness.
Some of the most common drugs for motion sickness are drugs with an antihistamine effect, such as dimensionhydrinate (Dramina), diphenhydramine (Diphenhydramine, Ciel) and meclozine (Bonin), as well as drugs containing betahistine (Betacsentrin, Vestibo, Betaserc), which are more effective and fewer side effects. For the prevention of motion sickness and motion sickness, Scopolamine can also be used, which is available in the form of tablets and patches. The use of patches with Scopolamine is more effective than using tablets. Scopolamine is not effective in treating motion sickness and is only used to prevent it. For this reason, the patch is applied to the skin (usually behind the ear) no later than 4 hours before travel. Its duration is 3 days. Scopolamine tablets should also be taken 3-4 hours before the start of the trip, the duration of action of Scopolamine tablets is 8-12 hours. Scopolamine is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age, patients with angle-closure glaucoma, and the elderly. Due to the numerous side effects (blurred vision, dry mouth, headache, etc.), Scopolamine and its analogues are currently used in the treatment of motion sickness rather rarely. In some cases, antiemetics may also be used to treat some of the symptoms of motion sickness.

Dima asks:

The child is 9 years old, for several months now he has been numb in the car or on the bus. Does this indicate a problem in the body or could it just be so? Is it possible to overcome this state, for example, to go somewhere every day and constantly increase the travel time?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Motion sickness in transport is a violation of the function of the vestibular apparatus. It can be congenital or acquired - occur after infections (sinusitis, otitis media) or other causes (stress, digestive disorders, etc.) disorders (weakness) of the autonomic nervous system. Transport intolerance is also called motion sickness. How can the unpleasant symptoms associated with motion sickness be alleviated or prevented? First of all, during the trip, it is necessary to restrict head movements to a minimum, because the role of motor activity of the head in the development of motion sickness is great. Restrictions on head movements can be arbitrary, but it is better if the head rests on an appropriate support (headrest, bolster, etc.). It is important to take into account the orientation of the head relative to the vector of the acting acceleration. For example, on board a rolling ship, motion sickness will be less pronounced when accelerated along the longitudinal axis of the head (crown-leg) than along its anteroposterior axis. All preventive actions are aimed at reducing the visual-vestibular mismatch. For example, in a ship's cabin or on an airplane, at the first signs of motion sickness, it is better to sit with your eyes closed, or fix your gaze, as noted above, on the horizon or visible Earth. It is advisable for passengers of a car to look in front of them, and not to look through the side windows, not to read books or newspapers while driving, etc. Outside of travel, you can train using a set of active, passive and combined exercises, in which various accelerations act on the vestibular apparatus. Active training includes special physical and gymnastic exercises, tennis, volleyball, swimming, acrobatic jumping on a trampoline, exercises on sports equipment: the Rhine wheel, triplex, etc .; to passive - rotation on rotary chairs, motion sickness on a swing, etc. Combined methods combine active and passive exercises. Such training not only helps to suppress unpleasant vestibular reactions, but also improves orientation in space. On our portal you can read the article “Do you feel bad in transport? Getting Rid of the Problem ”, dedicated to the problem of motion sickness. Be healthy!

My daughter is 7 years old, on long trips she often gets seasick, but I don't feed her until I leave. And recently I read somewhere that on the contrary it is necessary to eat. So how is it correct?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

The mechanism of motion sickness nausea is not easy and remains not fully understood. There is an opinion that the leading role in the occurrence of transport sickness (TB) belongs to the otolith apparatus. The receptor elements embedded in the elliptical and spherical sacs of the vestibule of the ear labyrinth, having a relatively low threshold of irritation, are extremely sensitive to long-term rhythmically repetitive rectilinear movements of the human head, especially in the vertical plane. Another theory of TB occurrence is the so-called sensory conflict hypothesis - conflicting sensory information from the organs of vision, vestibular apparatus and other receptors enters the brain when they are stimulated. Examples of such a mismatch are a person looking at a rapidly moving landscape from the window of a high-speed train or car, as well as many hours of games with fast movement of visual images on a computer display - vision and body movements are not coordinated. But what does the stomach and nutrition have to do with everything, you ask? The fact is that the Vomiting Center is located in a certain part of the central nervous system, where impulses are received from the pharynx, gastrointestinal tract, mediastinum, from the optic hillock, vestibular apparatus and various receptors. These areas of the uneven system can interact with each other and affect the vomiting center. The mismatch between the visual analyzer and the movement causes a command in the brain about malfunctions in the body - a protective reaction occurs in the form of vomiting. The command about a malfunction before vomiting is accompanied by profuse saliva, which irritates the gastric mucosa and, together with the autonomic nervous system, causes rhythmic contractions of the stomach in the direction opposite to the normal movement of food. Vomiting occurs. After a light snack, less saliva will be released and the gag reflex will not be as active. Reduce the secretion of saliva olives and olives, for example. But the child must be adapted to these products in advance.

Alice asks:

The child is one and a half years old, he is seasick literally a few minutes after the start of the trip, but sometimes you still have to go somewhere, but I don’t know what to do. At what age can you give her any drugs?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good afternoon, Alice! Do not rush to give your child pills, because he is still small, life is just beginning. You are not going to feed him with drugs all his life, are you? Your child is likely already paying attention to swings, carousels, perhaps he likes to be thrown up or circled in his arms. So do not deny him pleasure. Thus, you will not only raise his spirits, but also train his organ of balance - the vestibular apparatus. If the body of a person (of any age) repeatedly and often changes position in space, the vestibular apparatus continuously transmits signals about this to the brain, which immediately reacts by changing the tone of the muscles of the neck, arms, legs and the entire body. If you overdo it without training, any person gets seasick. But if you gradually accustom your baby to a variety of body movements, then there will be no conflict. As a workout, various head movements, somersaults, jumping rope and trampoline are suitable. In the future, it is useful for a child to engage in swimming, gymnastics, athletics, and diving. Now try to keep the baby not hungry during the trip, but do not feed him later than 2 hours before departure. If on the way the baby still gets nausea, let him drink cold mineral water in small sips or chew thin slices of lemon. The ideal option would be if the baby falls asleep or takes a nap on the road. If he is awake, try not to let him turn his head, but concentrate his attention on objects directly in front of him or on the horizon. Talk to your child more on the road, sing songs with him, solve riddles. But in no case let him look in a book or draw, this will only worsen the situation. If this does not help, go to an appointment with a neurologist or otoneurologist for the selection of medications. Be healthy!

Good afternoon! Perhaps I will repeat myself, but in my opinion I have a slightly different problem ... For the third year he has been swimming and skating and riding a two-wheeled bicycle ..... BUT! Literally the second month (he began to feel sick in the car) .... I am in no hurry to go to the doctor, I observe, I tried to feed before leaving, I still feel sick ... Tell me, I have a suspicion (like my mother), we finished the first grade this year grammar school, maybe this is due to nervous disorders?

In the best case, the child's condition may be associated with this period. In this case, this phenomenon should be temporary, pass after a while.
It should be noted that there are states of the so-called "borderline" pathology.
The body is generally healthy, but has limited compensatory capacity.
A breakdown in compensation can be provoked by any additional factor (another disease or a critical period. A number of pathologies and congenital malformations can begin to manifest themselves at any age of a person.
If the program for monitoring such a patient is strictly followed, the necessary
consultation with a pediatric neurologist and resolve the issue regarding:
consultations with a gastroenterologist, ophthalmologist, cardiologist,
X-ray of the cervical spine and cranial-cervical junction.
Depending on the results, a number of other laboratory and instrumental examinations may be offered.

Answers Gerasimenko Elizaveta Vladimirovna:

Good afternoon, Lana!
If your son has no other complaints besides nausea, it is most likely classic motion sickness (functional vestibular dysfunction), which could have been triggered by overwork after the school year. Therefore, more sleep and fresh walks.
to eliminate motion sickness, it is possible to recommend hardening procedures with cool water, nootropics with a sedative effect (phenibut, pantogam, - a monthly planned course, calcium preparations,), if drugs for the treatment of vestibular dysfunction are ineffective, a homeopath. "Vertiho-Hel", Aeron, Betaserk - 2-3 times before the road.
On the road - wipe the child's neck and chest with a cool wet handkerchief, massage the ears, you can feed before the road, but do not feed with dense and low-fat food (for example, dry crackers with tea) before expensive fruit (often cause fermentation), do not give mineral water. Take 10-15 minute stops with physical exercises (jumping, squats), you can suck on something sour (lollipop, sour apple)
And watch the child. Be sure to consult a doctor if, in addition to nausea, the following alarming symptoms are added:
- noise in ears,
- hearing impairment,
- dizziness (associated with body movement, head position),
- if, when looking into the eyes of a child, you see twitching of the eyeballs (nystagmus)
The listed complaints are a reason for visiting a neurologist and ENT - (ENT should conduct vestibular tests, an audiogram is good)
On the other hand, an increase in complaints related to the digestive tract (abdominal pain, heartburn, bitter saliva) is a reason for visiting a gastroenterologist - are there any liver diseases, helminthic invasion. To begin with, do the elementary - hand over the coprogram, follow the color of urine and feces, hand over feces to the ovipositor.
Write - how are you doing! be healthy

Olya asks:

Hello! At the age of 1.6, my baby began to feel very sick in transport! Now he is 3.2 years old, but the problem has not disappeared! Advise any liver-friendly drugs.

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good afternoon, Olya! And what did you do against motion sickness for a year and a half? They just waited for everything to be decided by themselves, or did they use folk remedies and train the organ of balance? If you have not done anything, start simple - after all, it is quite within your power to prevent motion sickness. Usually children from 2 to 12 years of age get seasick. In addition, there are far more children who get sick while traveling than those who calmly enjoy the journey from start to finish. So, make sure that the child does not hit the road tired, hungry or overeat. Try to travel early in the morning or late in the evening. Try to keep your child entertained on the road with games, music, but not reading and drawing. Teach your child, looking out the window, to concentrate not on nearby objects, but to look into the distance, at the horizon. If you still insist on medication, without much harm to the child, but, by the way, with dubious benefits, you can purchase homeopathic or antihomotoxic drugs for motion sickness at the pharmacy. They are sold without a doctor's prescription. If you are interested in more effective and safer drugs, be sure to seek an in-person consultation with an otoneurologist or neuropathologist, who, after a thorough examination, will select an effective drug that will be shown specifically for your baby. If you want to have more information, read on our website the article “Do you feel bad in transport? Getting rid of the problem ”, which is dedicated to the problem of motion sickness. Be healthy!

Arseny asks:

Hello! The son (2 years and 3 months) is very sick in the car (vomiting). Please advise a remedy for motion sickness

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good afternoon, Arseny! There may be several reasons for the appearance of motion sickness symptoms in a baby:
- multiple changes in the position of the body in space, leading to a "failure" in the work of the brain due to incorrect interpretation of the position of the body - "sensory conflict";
- damage to the organ of balance as a result of inflammatory diseases (otitis media, sinusitis, etc.);
-functional failures in the autonomic nervous system.
The age for motion sickness is the most suitable. Typically, children start to get sick between the ages of 2 and 4. In the future, especially if you train the vestibular apparatus, the symptoms go away. Riding on swings and carousels, jumping on a trampoline and with a skipping rope, outdoor games are suitable as trainings. To avoid the onset of motion sickness symptoms on the way, you need to follow a number of rules:
-make sure that your son does not go tired and hungry, but you should not overeat either;
-try to travel in the early morning or late evening (at night); make stops on the way every two hours, then it is better to arrange a "roadside picnic" - to have a snack;
-try to keep your son busy on the road with games, music, perhaps listening to audio performances (exclude reading books and drawing);
-It is better to look into the distance, at the horizon line.
If, despite the above measures, the son's condition does not improve on the way, there will be repeated vomiting, you will need a consultation with an otoneurologist and a neuropathologist, who, after a full examination, will help you choose effective medicines to combat the symptoms of motion sickness. Be healthy!

Semyon asks:

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good afternoon, Semyon! Before choosing medication for a child, which, by the way, should be done by a specialist (otoneurologist, neuropathologist) at a full-time appointment, it is worth doing everything possible with the help of non-medication. Moreover, your child is already receiving a lot of drugs to treat his underlying disease. Drug treatment for motion sickness should only be started if all available non-drug treatments are ineffective. So, let's begin. It is very important that the child does not feel fear of transport, because anxiety can provoke vomiting even when there are no longer any physiological reasons. A visit to a psychologist can help cope with fear. Rational travel planning is essential. It is better to plan long journeys during the daytime sleep or leave early in the morning (late in the evening). Before the trip, the child should not gorge itself, but it is also impossible to go on an empty stomach. On the way, in order to minimize the risk of motion sickness, the child should look out the window only with his face in the direction of travel and not look around at flickering objects. If nausea occurs, you can suck on a lemon or drink mint water. If the condition has not improved, it is better to get out of the vehicle and take a walk in the fresh air as much as possible. If this does not help, contact a specialist for a full examination, a complex of vestibular training under their control and the selection of an effective and safe drug that will get rid of the symptoms of motion sickness. Be healthy!

Lika asks:

The son is 7 years old, before this age he was never seasick, and now it is impossible to get into the car with him. What could it be?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good day! Your son is all right. There are many more children who get seasick while traveling than those who quietly enjoy the journey from start to finish. You could even say that you are in some way lucky that he did not get seasick before. The fact is that usually this disorder manifests itself by 3-4 years (sometimes later) and disappears over time. It is entirely within your power to prevent motion sickness. So, be sure to make sure that your son does not hit the road tired and hungry. But overeating is also not worth it. To avoid exacerbating motion sickness, try to travel in the early morning or late evening (at night). Make stops along the way every two hours. Try to keep your son busy on the road, but not by reading books, but by games, music, perhaps listening to audio plays. Children who are distracted during the trip are almost not bothered by the malaise. It is better to refresh yourself not in the car on the way, but during one of the stops (arrange a picnic on the side of the road). It is worth drinking mineral water without gas or citrus juices. If your son starts to feel sick, let him immediately look into the distance, at the horizon line - this calms down the movement of fluid in the middle ear. If that doesn't work, stop the car and rest for a while. If such precautions still do not relieve vomiting, it is worth showing your son to an otoneurologist or neurologist. Specialists will examine the son and help him choose effective medications that will help him cope with the problem. Be healthy!

Alla asks:

At what age can a child be given anti-motion sickness pills on a trip?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

It is better to give a child on a trip from motion sickness a couple of green juicy sweet and sour apples, sour candies (barberries, duchess), ginger in all forms (in sugar, powder, tea, pharmacy capsules), citrus juices, crackers. In pharmacies you can buy: bonin, ginger in capsules, travel companion, dimensionhydrinate, etc. But before giving these funds to a child, study the contraindications, because many of them have age restrictions! And better than any drugs, simple training of the vestibular apparatus of the growing body helps children. To reduce the risk of motion sickness, you can start training the vestibular apparatus from early childhood - ride a lot on merry-go-rounds and swings. If, after putting the child on a swing for the first time, immediately roll it for a long time, the baby will feel dizzy, and he will feel weak for a while. In other words, he will be seasick. And if you gradually increase the duration of riding, the baby will not experience symptoms of motion sickness, his vestibular apparatus will be trained and you can safely take your beloved man on a long journey on any transport. These can be rotational movements of the head, somersaults, jumping (with a rope, on a trampoline). Children love it very much when dads toss them up, circle. Do not deny your son or daughter these pleasures. Moreover, you also train your vestibular apparatus. It is useful to do swimming, gymnastics, athletics, diving.

Vera asks:

Should di go to the doctors because the child (2 years old) is rocked in the car? Or will he outgrow it?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good afternoon, Vera! Did you feel sick in transport as a child? The fact is that most often it is children who are 2 to 12 years old who are seasick, especially those whose parents have suffered or are suffering from this ailment. Full-time consultation with a specialist - an otoneurologist - will not hurt. It will help determine if the baby has a pathology of the organ of hearing. If everything is in order on the part of the baby's ENT organs, it means that your son is shown all kinds of procedures for training the vestibular apparatus: active games with a ball, riding on swings and rides, jumping rope and a trampoline. As a result of such training, the child's balance organ will be adapted to rapid changes in body position, therefore, traveling in transport will no longer be inconvenient. It is also worth preparing for trips in advance. Reassure your child that everything will go well. Make sure that the child does not go hungry, but also does not overeat. Entertain your child on the road with music and listening to audio fairy tales, talk to him more, tell fairy tales, interesting stories, make riddles. The main thing is that the child does not independently concentrate on books and drawing, because this can contribute to motion sickness. Create an atmosphere that is conducive to relaxation and sleep on the way. If this path turns out to be ineffective, consult a specialist for the selection of an effective and safe drug for motion sickness. Be healthy!

Marinka asks:

My daughter is 8 years old, due to the fact that she is constantly seasick, she only has to rest in the country. I know that many give their children pills, but I am afraid to harm the child, especially since it is difficult to choose the safest ones. Maybe you can advise something?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good day! Before choosing medication, which by the way should be done by the attending doctor, it is worth doing everything possible with non-medication as much as possible. Only if they turn out to be ineffective, you need to proceed with the examination and drug treatment. So, remember a few rules of behavior in vehicles that you should teach your daughter. It is better to plan long journeys during the daytime sleep or leave early in the morning (late in the evening). To minimize the risk of motion sickness, the daughter should look out the window only with her face in the direction of travel and not look around at flickering objects. Before the trip, the daughter should not gorge itself, but it is also not worth going on an empty stomach. If nausea occurs, you can suck on a lemon or drink mint water. Also, you can drip citrus or ginger aromatic oil on your daughter's wrists. If the condition has not improved, it is worth stopping the car and giving your daughter enough time to walk in the fresh air. If vomiting is unavoidable, be sure to visit an otoneurologist or neuropathologist and undergo a full examination. We also recommend our article “Do you feel bad in transport? Ksenia asks:

I am 16 years old, I am from a village, now I have come to my sister in a big city, and I plan to go to college. But there is one problem, the distances are huge and I have to drive for at least an hour in one direction, and I am starting to feel sick. Will it pass with time, or am I not made for a big city?

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Good day! To say that you are not made for a big city is very, very premature. The fact is that motion sickness occurs quite often in human society. According to statistics, every second inhabitant of the earth is susceptible to motion sickness. Women suffer from this ailment more often than men. In addition, before you rarely encountered public transport, therefore, your vestibular apparatus is not trained enough. And in an untrained person, leading a sedentary lifestyle, at a certain moment, the state of health begins to deteriorate sharply, and the deterioration of the state of the whole body leads to dysfunction and the vestibular apparatus. Hence, you need to get serious about your training. The most suitable sports for people with motion sickness are aerobics, jogging, basketball, volleyball, football. In addition, you can independently make tilts and turns of the head, ride on swings and carousels, all this will help train the vestibular apparatus and quickly adapt to the rhythmic swaying of public transport. In the meantime, while on the road, try not to look out the window, do not read books, do not ride on an empty stomach and do not overeat before the trip, breathe deeply (through the mouth). As time passes, you will forget about unpleasant symptoms. Good luck to you!

Lyudmila asks:

The child is 9 years old, for some reason he is constantly seasick in transport, recently he has been taking Betaserc, helping him well. But recently I read that motion sickness can be the result of a birth injury. Is it so? Maybe we should examine him? There are no other visible signs of any disease.

Answers Maryenko Ekaterina Nikolaevna:

Hello. Motion sickness can have 80 causes. Birth trauma is a group of diseases that occur in newborns after childbirth and are characterized by a variety of causes and manifestations. Given that motion sickness is related to functional maturity and vestibular integrity, it can be assumed that your child has had skull and / or brain damage. In the first year of life, their consequences could be encrypted under the diagnosis of encephalopathy. However, sometimes there are no painful manifestations and the child is considered healthy. What is the reason. The fact is that with any deviation from the norm during childbirth, especially with sluggish labor, long-term compressions and deformities of the skull occur, which do not always recover after birth. The brain is a very precise and highly organized structure. Therefore, even micron-sized displacements cause functional disorders. It is possible to examine, but not always the resolution of modern diagnostic methods allows you to find small deviations. Therefore, during the period of taking Betaserk, it is good to undergo a course of light manual therapy.

The condition, which in everyday life is called motion sickness or "seasickness", in the language of doctors is called kinetosis. It can develop not only in sea travel or in a car, but also in a bus, trolleybus, tram, plane or train. Recently, this problem has become more acute, because families with children have begun to travel more and more and more moms and dads are buying cars. Children can suffer from motion sickness, even while riding on swings or carousels, rides, and while spinning in place on their own axis.

In fairness, it should be noted that, from the point of view of the physiology of a child, kinetosis is not a disease, but a protective reaction of the body. Due to the still insufficiently developed system of coordination of the vestibular apparatus, he simply does not yet know how to correctly respond to rolling, and a failure occurs. And nausea and vomiting are the result of irritation of the nervous system by impulses from the vestibular apparatus.

Causes of motion sickness in children

Children from about two years of age are susceptible to motion sickness. Seizures usually recede after 10 years, when the vestibular apparatus and nerve pathways are almost completely formed. However, there is a small percentage of the adult population with manifestations of kinetosis. In addition, this tendency is inherited; you should also know that motion sickness occurs in girls several times more often than in boys.

There is also a certain difference in the types of transport: some of the children cannot stand any type of transport or even a swing. Some of the kids suffer only in the car, and some - only in sea transport; it is difficult to predict the development of motion sickness in advance.

Kinetosis can occur as an independent condition, that is, it appears only as a result of motion sickness in transport or other places. However, parents should remember that motion sickness can be one of the manifestations of a disease. Similar manifestations are characteristic of diseases of the ENT organs (sinusitis, sinusitis, frontal sinusitis are inflammation of the paranasal sinuses), diseases of the hearing organs, since this is where the vestibular apparatus is located, diseases of the nervous system, problems with the stomach or intestines, or cardiovascular diseases.

Only a doctor can rule out other diseases that can cause kinetosis; then it can be argued that the baby has a tendency to motion sickness due to insufficient maturity of the vestibular apparatus. All drugs for motion sickness should also be recommended only by a doctor - self-medication is unacceptable and fraught with complications, since not all drugs are acceptable for young children.

Why does the child get seasick?

As already mentioned, the crumbs experience unpleasant sensations due to a malfunction of the vestibular apparatus. It is located in the inner ear and is responsible for the coordination of movements and the position of the body in space. To better understand where kinetosis comes from, you need to know about the structure of the inner ear and its work. The inner ear is located inside the temporal bone of the skull and is small in size. Today it is known that the main impulse for it is the force of attraction (the law of gravity). This organ allows a person to correctly perceive the position of his body in space, as well as to correctly understand the direction of movement. Closing your eyes, you will fully feel the work of the vestibular apparatus, accurately determining the direction if you are led somewhere by the hand (for example, the feeling of turning to the right or down, etc.).

In the structure of the inner ear, the vestibule and the system of semicircular tubules are distinguished, which are located in three mutually perpendicular planes. It is this system that creates the three-dimensionality of the world, and with the help of these channels it is possible to move the body up and down, back and forth, left and right and around its axis. Each tubule is a hollow, curved tube, lined from the inside with cilia (sensitive hairs) and filled with liquid. When the position of the body changes, the fluid in the tubules begins to move and the cilia are irritated, transmitting information to the brain. These tubules perceive movement, sound vibration, and gravity at the same time. The brain, receiving information from them, superimposes it on the one that it receives from the eyes at the same time, as a result, a holistic picture of the surrounding world arises.

What happens in a child's body during motion sickness?

When moving, the child's senses receive too much conflicting information. The eyes see that the baby is standing on the deck or sitting in a chair without moving, and the vestibular apparatus signals that the position of the body is changing in space. Due to the fact that the connections between the cortex and the subcortex of the brain are still imperfect, and the coordination system is not yet fully developed, the child's brain cannot bring together all the data, and irritation of internal organs and systems arises. An adult compares in the cerebral cortex the information received in the past and the data from the eyes and ears into a single whole and understands how to react correctly, which is why he is very rarely motion sick: the body already knows how to properly respond to such changes. But children under 2 years of age rarely get seasick because they still do not have a concept of the space-time connection, and the brain can only perceive so far only scattered pictures of the world. In addition, the vestibular apparatus of babies under 2 years old is also very poorly developed.

The severity of the manifestations of kinetosis is different and depends on many circumstances - the individual sensitivity of the child, his emotionality, the activity of movement and the degree of fluctuations in the horizon, the temperature in the rooms, smoking in the presence of the baby.

Symptoms of kinetosis

  • An excessive number of impulses that enter the brain from the vestibular apparatus irritate many organs and systems of the child due to the common brain centers. During motion sickness, three characteristic types of responses develop - emotional, vegetative and muscular.
  • With the emotional type, a feeling of fear, panic or, conversely, delight, euphoria, inappropriate situations prevail.
  • The vegetative type is characterized by redness or sharp pallor of the baby's skin, excessive sweating, drooling, nausea or vomiting, impaired consciousness, fainting.
  • With the muscle type, individual muscle contractions occur, in which the body can deviate to the sides, there can be swaying, gait instability, and loss of support.
  • These types can be combined in each child in varying degrees of intensity, so all children react differently to motion sickness.
  • In addition, rather conditionally, there are several clinical forms of the disease.
  • The nervous form is manifested by the predominance in the child of heaviness in the head, dizziness, weakness, headaches and lethargy.
  • With the gastrointestinal form, taste disturbances, an unpleasant taste in the mouth, nausea, vomiting, stool disturbances in the form of diarrhea, abdominal pain and excessive sensitivity to odors appear.
  • The cardiovascular form manifests itself in an increase in heart rate or, less often, in its slowing down, an increase in blood pressure, a violation of the heart rhythm. The baby may have a violation of the nature of the pulse: as the attack intensifies, it decreases, the child begins to yawn, shallow breathing appears, and then the pressure drops sharply and even fainting may occur (short-term loss of consciousness).
  • Often, babies can have a combination of all the listed forms or one of them predominates (at a certain age). It is possible that the manifestations of kinetosis will change or weaken over time.

How to help a child with motion sickness

The first thing parents need to do is not to panic, pull yourself together and not pretend that something terrible has happened. From parental panic, the baby will become more nervous, and this will aggravate the manifestations of kinetosis. Calm down the child, tell him that nothing terrible has happened. Provide cool, fresh air for your baby, if possible. Stop the car (if you are driving your own car), get out and stand on a flat surface, walk a little. If you are using public transport, find a place with less shaking. Asking your child to breathe rarely and deeply will often help reduce or prevent nausea. In this condition, citrus fruits help well: let the baby suck on a slice of orange, tangerine or lemon, or offer to put a lemon peel on his cheek. Other sour fruits can be used as well as peach. Sometimes a sour candy or a slice of green apple helps out. You can ask your toddler to look at his toe, toe, or any stationary object. If your child does not vomit, but complains of dizziness or nausea, you can give him a motion sickness medication that your doctor may prescribe.

It is always worth keeping on hand a few plastic bags, still water or odorless wet wipes to wash your face and hands with crumbs. It's just that the child can not always tell you about an attack of nausea in time, and the baby can vomit unexpectedly for you: then you will need to help him put himself in order.

Motion sickness drugs for children

Pharmacies offer a wide range of medicines for kinetosis, but many medicines for motion sickness cannot be used until 10-12 years of age. Therefore, the appointment of a specific drug, its dosage and method of administration should be carried out only by a pediatrician or neurologist.

Most of the drugs are taken in advance, half an hour or an hour before the start of the trip, so that they have time to begin to exert their effect and unpleasant symptoms do not arise. Many medications reduce the excitability of the vestibular apparatus, which prevents nausea and dizziness. However, the doctor will recommend that you use medication only if the trip is long and the baby is very poorly tolerated by transport. For prevention, these funds are not recommended. Any drug can have side effects, such as allergies. Therefore, such medications are given to the child only if he was seasick before - so as not to provoke an attack. If you are planning a long trip, then the likelihood that the child will get seasick is very high, and in these cases, of course, it is better to give the baby medicine in advance. If the trip will last no more than an hour, try to do without medication.

All remedies for motion sickness are divided into several groups.

The main group consists of special drugs that suppress the symptoms of motion sickness. Their main effect is to penetrate the nervous system, where they reduce the supply of impulses from
vestibular apparatus. As a result, lightheadedness, vomiting and dizziness are suppressed. In early childhood, it is permissible to use the DRAMINA drug, it is used in children from 1 year old, SIEL and KINEDRIL preparations - from 2 years old. However, these drugs have a fairly impressive list of side effects: thirst and dry mouth, effects on vision and pressure, increased heart rate, pronounced sedation. These drugs do not take effect immediately, so they are usually applied half an hour to an hour before the start of the trip.

Another group includes homeopathic remedies, for example COCKULIN (prescribed for children from 3 years old), VERTIGOHEL (from 2 years old), AVIA-MORE (from 2 years old). The basic principle of action of these drugs is "like we treat like", that is, in large doses, they themselves would cause motion sickness symptoms, but in small doses they help the body fight malaise. They have almost no contraindications and few side effects. They cannot be used only with individual sensitivity to the components of drugs or allergies in a child. For babies, they are produced in the form of drops, caramels or granules, which is convenient for young children. The drug is taken half an hour before the start of the trip.

If motion sickness is severe, the doctor may prescribe antiallergic (antihistamines), sedatives or antiemetic drugs. Their choice is made by the doctor and depends on the degree of manifestation of kinetosis. All of these drugs reduce the excitability of the nervous system and reduce unpleasant symptoms. However, they also have a fairly large list of side effects: lethargy, lethargy, drowsiness, dry mouth. But if a child vomits on every trip, these medications can make the situation much easier. Doses and method of administration of the drug will also be prescribed by the doctor.

If motion sickness medication doesn't work ...

It so happens that the effect of taking the drug is weak or absent and the symptoms of motion sickness do not disappear in the baby. This can happen with individual insensitivity to this drug. It should be remembered that increasing the dosage or re-taking the medicine is unacceptable. In such cases, it is worthwhile to be patient during the trip and help the baby to transfer the journey most comfortably, using the non-drug methods described above to deal with the symptoms of motion sickness. Lay the child down or sit down and ask them to completely relax and try to sleep.

Folk remedies for motion sickness

Doctors and experienced parents know many non-drug ways to relieve a baby's condition during motion sickness. These recommendations have been tested over the years, are safe and help children well, so it makes sense to try them in practice. However, it is worth remembering that they may not always help your baby specifically, since all children are different and the reasons for motion sickness may be different.

An effective remedy for nausea and motion sickness is ginger. It is cut into small plates and sucked on the road. But not all kids like its taste, so you can substitute gingerbread or candy instead. In addition, it is good to drink ginger tea or infusion on the road.

Some children are helped essential oils, especially mint or chamomile... Place a few drops of oil on a handkerchief or tissue and let your baby breathe.

Infusion can also help against motion sickness. oats or spinach juice... They are prepared very simply: 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of oats with boiling water, leave for 30-40 minutes, drain. Juice from freshly washed spinach is squeezed out using a juicer. If you know about the trip in advance, start giving your child these juices three to four days before the trip - about ¼ glasses twice a day. When traveling as a drink, it is recommended to use still mineral water or sour juice- they are drunk in small sips.

Often wipe the baby's face and hands with a damp cloth or towel on the road, you can make a wet bandage on the forehead. It is necessary to wear loose clothes without tight straps and elastic bands, with a wide collar. If you feel unwell, put the baby on your lap and talk to him about your favorite topics. This will distract him from unpleasant thoughts and sensations, and the best remedy for motion sickness is sleep.

It seems to many parents that on the road they need to feed the baby more densely, which with a tendency to motion sickness is completely wrong. Eating plentiful food will only make the situation worse. But you can't take a hungry child either. Therefore, it is recommended to arrange a light snack an hour before the trip, and the meals should be easy to digest. A piece of boiled fish, yoghurts, cottage cheese will be the optimal food before leaving and on the road. It is not recommended to take carbonated drinks or milk with you on a trip, in addition, if the child is seasick, you should not eat with him, so as not to provoke an attack.

If the trip is long and you need to eat on the road, think in advance where you can stop for a long enough time so that you do not go straight after eating, but take a walk in the fresh air for 30-40 minutes: this will make it easier for the child to cope with motion sickness.

Where is the best place to sit when motion sickness?

The place of the child in transport must be thought out in advance. If the journey takes place on a ship, you need to choose cabins closer to the center of the ship; if on a bus, sit in front of it and close to the opening windows. On long trips, stop and walk more often, open windows; the baby should sit only in the direction of travel.

When traveling by car, you need to know a few simple rules that will reduce the risk of motion sickness. Undoubtedly, the least motion sickness is on the seat next to the driver, but children under 12 are not allowed to travel there according to traffic rules. In addition, children under this age must be in car seats. And fixing the child in the car seat reduces the manifestations of motion sickness, because they overtake babies more often, if they are active, move around the cabin, lie down on the seats or look into the rear or side glass. The best place for a car seat is in the center of the rear seat: this way the child pays less attention to the side windows and frequently changing pictures. Convenient and correct positioning in the chair makes it possible to breathe freely, the baby looks in the right direction. In addition, it is easier and more comfortable to fall asleep in the car seat.

Knowing that you have a long journey ahead of you, prepare for it in advance. Bring your little one with you on short trips often to get them used to the movement. Before traveling, thoroughly ventilate the car interior, do not close the vents in the warm season, do not turn on the stove in full force in winter. Do not use strong-smelling air fresheners or smoke in the car where the child is traveling. Try to drive the car smoothly and evenly without sudden acceleration, cornering or braking.

How to train the vestibular apparatus

If you lead an active lifestyle and often travel by car or other transport, you need to start training the baby's vestibular apparatus in advance. Then the risk of motion sickness will be much lower and they will be less severe.

Many parents start taking their children with them almost from birth. And this is justified, thus the vestibular apparatus of the crumbs from the very beginning adapts to the movement. Of course, these trips should only be in a car seat and over short distances.

You can train at home, but the main criterion for such exercises should be regularity. Simple exercises for training the vestibular apparatus are recommended - swinging on a gymnastic ball, carrying and swinging on hands, rotating a child, whirling and overturning.
