The choice of the optimal diameter of the stain and the pulse duration depend on the diameter of the vessel. Many believe that the diameter of the emitter stain must be approximately equal to the diameter of the vessel. This is not true. The larger the diameter of the spot, the deeper the penetration of the laser. I.e the diameter of the emitter is selected in the depth of the vessel, and not by its thickness.

ND: YAG warms the vessel more evenly than the short wave of the KTP laser. Uniform heating makes it more efficient than the vessel. However, due to the weaker absorption of hemoglobin, to achieve the ND: YAG effect, the laser requires much higher fluuens (flow density) than when using KTP (ROSS EV, DomanKevitz Y. The pulse duration is usually selected from 10 to 100 milliseconds.
